Marist struck first, when senior captain Justin Scharf blasted a shot to the lower left side of the net in the 18
th minute. The Red Foxes would extend their lead to 2-0 in the 22’ after Kyle Galloway sent a free kick over the wall past the goalkeeper. Rider cut the deficit in half in minute 28 after Tyrell Moore capitalized off of the keeper mis-clearance, sending the ball past the keeper to the top right corner.
In the 49’ a bad clearance by Marist led to an own goal, knotting the match at 2-2. The score would remain deadlocked for the final 41 minutes, sending the match into overtime.
In 20 minutes of overtime action, neither side would score the golden goal to end the match, sending the championship to penalty kicks. Marist scored all five of its penalty kicks compared to Rider’s three, clinching the title for the Red Foxes.
