When top-seeded Sacred Heart and second-seeded Siena meet on Sunday in the MAAC Men’s Soccer Championship, a first-time MAAC champion will be crowned. The Pioneers and Saints will vie for the league trophy and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament with first kick set for noon. With 2025 being the first championship final berth for both teams, this will mark the first title game in which both teams are making their inaugural MAAC final appearance since 2013, when then MAAC newcomers Monmouth and Quinnipiac met in the championship. No. 1 Sacred Heart punched its first ever ticket into the championship and earned its first MAAC home postseason win following a 4-3 victory in overtime against crosstown rival, No. 4 Fairfield University on Thursday night. Sacred Heart never trailed Fairfield in the back-and-forth match and needed a golden goal in the 96th minute by captain David Garcia Gallego to pick up the win. The Pioneers were led offensively by Ivan Morcillo’s brace and in net by goalkeeper Luca Marinelli’s four saves. Sacred Heart is 8-0-3 since September 14 and they remain unbeaten against MAAC opponents this season. In addition to being unbeaten against league opponents, the Pioneers are also unbeaten at home, owning a 5-0-3 record at Park Ave Field. No. 2 Siena secured its first ever spot in the final with a 2-1 overtime win over No. 3 Iona University in the semifinal round, eliminating the defending champion who had previously made three straight championship finals. After falling behind by a goal midway through the first half, Siena’s Mora Bravo scored the equalizer late in the first half, before the Saints’ Campbell Stalker scored the golden and game winning goal in the 99th minute of overtime. Siena had previously played in 15 MAAC semifinals, failing to get over the hump all 15 times. The Saints have won three straight games heading into the final and have only lost one match since late September, posting a 7-1-4 record during that stretch. With both semifinal round games going to OT, it marked the first time this has happened in 12 years, last occurring during the 2013 MAAC Championship, when both semis and the final each went to penalty kicks.

All-time, Sacred Heart and Siena have faced each other 12 times dating back to 2009. Siena holds the advantage in the all-time series 7-3-2. As MAAC members, the two teams have only played one time with the lone meeting occurring during this year’s regular season on October 11 in Loudonville, NY, with it resulting in a 1-1 draw. This will be the first postseason meeting in history between the two sides.

The winner of the 2025 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship title match will earn the league’s automatic bid into the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Soccer Tournament.
