Marist Draws Providence in NCAA Men’s Soccer First Round

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 15, 2021) – 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Soccer Champions, Marist College will travel to Providence, Rhode Island to face Providence College in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament, announced during the NCAA Selection Show on Monday. The Red Foxes and Friars will meet on Thursday, November 18 at 7 p.m.
 
Marist, which has an overall record of 12-6-3, earned the MAAC’s automatic bid to the 2021 College Cup following a thrilling MAAC Championship title game on Sunday, which ended with the Red Foxes winning on penalty kicks (5-3) against Rider University. The championship was the fourth in program history for Marist and the team will be making its third NCAA appearance. Marist was led by Kyle Galloway, Championship Most Outstanding Player, after he scored three goals and two assists in three tournament matches. The Red Foxes enter the NCAA Tournament unbeaten in its last nine matches, posting a 7-0-2 mark since October 13.
 
Big East member Providence enters the NCAA field with a 10-4-4 overall record, finishing second in the Big East with 18 points (5-2-3). The Friars reached the championship match of the Big East Tournament, falling to Georgetown 2-1 in overtime.
 
The winner between the two teams will face #14 overall seed and defending national champion Marshall at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
