Fairfield Captures 2021 MAAC Volleyball Championship

LOUDONVILLE, NY (November 21, 2021) – The top-ranked Fairfield University Stags (24-8, 16-2 MAAC) captured the 2021 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship on Sunday afternoon with a straight-set victory over second-seeded Rider University (19-12, 14-4 MAAC).
 
Fairfield will find out who they will face in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament on Sunday, November 28 at 8:30 pm on ESPNU. For more information regarding NCAA Volleyball, visit NCAA.com.

Fairfield Notes
  • Fairfield claims their 12th MAAC title in program history.
  • The 2021 championship marks head coach Todd Kress’ seventh MAAC Championship at the helm for the Stags.
  • Senior Laura Seeger registered 12 kills to lead the Stags.
  • Fairfield had 43 kills compared to Rider’s 35.
  • The Fairfield defense managed 13 total blocks including eight from sophomore Ella Gardiner.
  • Manuela Nicolini led the Stags with 35 of their 40 total assists.
  • Nicolini recorded 10 digs and sophomore Kyla Berg had nine.
Rider Notes
  • Rider falls in the 2021 MAAC Championship after winning the 2020-21 MAAC title last spring
  • Morgan Romano had a match-high 13 kills in the loss.
  • Anilee Sher led the Broncs with 32 of their 33 assists.
  • Pamela Loh registered 12 digs and Molly Strah contributed 10 digs of her own.
 
Fairfield’s K.J. Johnson was named the 2021 MAAC Volleyball Championship Most Valuable Player. For the tournament, she recorded 68 total points, 52 kills, 34 digs, and two assists throughout the three-day tournament.
