JERSEY CITY, NJ – Saint Peter's men's basketball head coach
Shaheen Holloway, today announced the team's 10-game out of conference schedule. The 2021-22 slate is headlined by a season-opening trip to A10 powerhouse Virginia Commonwealth (VCU) and a pair of Big East foes in St. John's and Providence.
To tip-off the season, men's basketball will cut the ribbon on the newly renovated Run Baby Run Arena inside The Victor R. Yanitelli, S.J. Recreational Life Center (RLC) with a Battle of the Boulevard exhibition game against NJCU on Tuesday, Nov. 2.
Campaign number four for Holloway officially gets underway with a challenging road test on Tuesday, Nov. 9 in Richmond, VA, taking on A10 powerhouse and conference tournament finalist from a year ago, VCU. The Peacocks return to the tri-state on Saturday, Nov. 13, for a road matchup against Big East foe, St. John's. It will be the third straight season that the Peacocks visit the Red Storm in Queens. The following week will pit Saint Peter's against the Wagner Seahawks on Staten Island on Wednesday, Nov. 17; SPU last met the Northeast Conference (NEC) member during the 2019-20 season in Jersey City.
The regular season home opener at Run Baby Run Arena will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 23, when the team welcomes LIU to town for the fourth meeting over the past five seasons between the two sides. The trip home will be shortly followed by a trip up I-95 to the Ocean State for a matchup against Big East member Providence College (Saturday, Nov. 27), another opponent from the Peacocks' 2019-20 slate.
December opens with back-to-back home games at Run Baby Run Arena beginning with another NEC foe, the St. Francis Brooklyn Terriers, on Wednesday, Dec. 8, as the two sides continue what has been an annual rivalry dating back to the 2015-16 ledger. Four days later, the Peacocks welcome Nyack College of the Division II ranks for the final non-conference home tilt of the winter on Sunday, Dec. 12.
After the pair of home contests, the Peacocks close out the non-conference schedule with two consecutive road games. On Saturday, Dec. 18, the men head out to Long Island to battle the Stony Brook Seawolves before concluding out-of-conference play at in-state rival Fairleigh Dickinson on Wednesday, Dec. 22. The meeting at Stony Brook is a return game of the home-home series after the two met in Jersey City last season, while the collision with FDU is an annual series that has been played every year for the past decade since 2011-12, excluding last winter's abbreviated non-conference campaign due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Tip times for the non-conference schedule will be announced at a later date.
