Box Score
Following a five-goal semifinal performance, the top-seeded Bobcats picked up where they left off, with 2022 MAAC Golden Boot, David Bercedo opening up the matches’ scoring with a goal in the 8’ by way of a header off a cross from MAAC Rookie of the Year, Alexander Stjernegaard. Quinnipiac would take the 1-0 lead into the break despite being outshot by Iona 10-4 and 5-1 in shots on goal in the first half.
11 minutes into the second half, the Bobcats struck again. This time, Bercedo won a loose ball that made it to Stjernegaard who placed a perfect ball into the box for Noah Silverman to strike and score. In the 65th minute, Quinnipiac would again score, with Tomas Svecula finding the back of the net off a feed from Stjernegaard.
Quinnipiac would remain ahead 3-0 late into the contest, but Iona did not go away quietly, erasing the clean sheet when Matias Morales sent a floater over the Quinnipiac back line to Aly Camera who scored to the top right corner, cutting the deficit to 3-1 (80’). The Gaels comeback attempt would not end there. In the 89’ Elird Mero scored for Iona, making it a one-goal game with just under two minutes to play. The Bobcats managed to not give up the game-tying goal, securing the 3-2 win and clinching the MAAC title.
