TLANTIC CITY, NJ (Mar. 12, 2022) – Top seeded Fairfield University capped off its magical season by winning the 2022 Hercules Tires Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Basketball Championship on Saturday inside of Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, following a 73-68 win over No. 3 Manhattan College.

Fairfield trailed by nine after one and by five at the break, before outscoring Manhattan 47-37 in the second half of the game. The Stags clicked on all cylinders following halftime, making 45 and 50 percent of their field goals and 50 percent and 60 percent of their three-pointers in the third and fourth quarters. Despite the strong second half, Manhattan led for almost 27 minutes compared to the Fairfield only leading for nine minutes. Lou Lopez-Senechal led the champions with 24 points and six rebounds, while Sydney Lowery added 18 points and seven boards. For the Jaspers, Dee Dee Davis knocked down eight triples, scoring a game-high 35 points. Fairfield wins its program’s fourth MAAC, the first since 1998. Moreover, in his final season as the leader of the Stags, head coach Joe Frager was able to achieve winning both a MAAC regular season and tournament championship.
Lopez-Senechal was selected as MVP of the championship. Joining her on the MAAC All-Championship Team was her teammates Lowery and Rachel Hakes, Davis and Courtney Warley from Manhattan, Angel Parker of Niagara, and Cur’Tiera Haywood of Quinnipiac.
