2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship Field Set

EDISON, NJ (March 5, 2022) – Following Saturday’s 2021-22 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s basketball regular season finales, the field is set for the 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship. The annual conference tournament will take place from March 8-12 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
 
The top-five teams in the bracket all earn a bye in the first round. Earning an opening round bye are regular season champions, No.1 Fairfield University (22-6, 19-1 MAAC), No.2 Quinnipiac University (19-10, 14-6 MAAC), No.3 Manhattan College (19-10, 14-6 MAAC), No.4 Niagara University (14-14, 11-9 MAAC), and No.5 Siena College (10-18, 10-10 MAAC).
 
The first-round tips-off on Tuesday, March 8 with three games on the docket. No. 8 Iona College (10-15, 8-12 MAAC) and No. 9 Rider University (9-20, 7-13 MAAC) kick things off at 9:30am. Iona swept the season series with Rider, winning game one on January 29, 63-40 and on game two on February 24, 65-58. The winner of this contest will meet No. 1 Fairfield in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 9 at 1:00pm.
 
In game two of the opening round, No. 7 Saint Peter’s University takes on No. 10 Marist College at 11:30am. The two teams split their season series as Saint Peter’s took the first contest on January 30, 58-45 and Marist won the second matchup on February 17, 51-41. No. 2 Quinnipiac will await the winner of this game for a 3:30pm meeting on Wednesday, March 9 in the quarterfinals.
 
The final game of the first round will tip at 1:30pm on Tuesday and it will feature No. 6 Monmouth University vs. No. 11 Canisius College. When they played during the regular season, Monmouth swept the season series, taking game one on January 22, 60-48 and game two on February 10, 62-52. The victorious side will have a day off before clashing with No. 3 Manhattan in the first game of Thursday, March 10 quarterfinals round at 12:00pm.
 
Wrapping up the quarterfinal round will be No. 4 Niagara University against No. 5 Siena College. When the two teams met this season, Niagara swept their matchups; winning game one 82-69 on January 27 and 65-58 on February 7.
 
All 2022 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship games will be broadcasted on ESPN+. Saturday’s championship title game will be simulcast on ESPNews.
