The 2022 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship Set for this Week

EDISON, NJ (May 4, 2022) – The 2022 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men's Lacrosse Championship will take place on Thursday, May 5 and Saturday, May 7, hosted by Marist College at Tenney Stadium at Leonidoff Field in Poughkeepsie, NY. The championship semifinals will air on ESPN+ at 4:00 and 7:00 p.m., while the championship title game will start at 10 a.m. live on ESPNU. The four-team championship field features top-seed St. Bonaventure, No. 2 Marist, No. 3 Manhattan and No. 4 Siena.

Marist and St. Bonaventure earned a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship, each finishing 2022 with a league-best mark of 5-1. The Bonnies defeated the Red Foxes 7-6 in the conference season-opener back on March 19, giving St. Bonaventure the head-to-head tiebreaker and No. 1 overall seed in the tournament field. The regular season crown for St. Bonaventure was the first ever MAAC title for the program. The Bonnies finished the 2022 campaign with a 10-3 overall record and went a perfect 6-0 at home while closing out the regular season as winners in their last eight out of nine contests. St. Bonaventure will be making its second straight trip to the tournament and is seeking its first ever MAAC tournament crown. Marist collects its first regular season title since 2019 and fifth overall. The Red Foxes compiled a 7-7 overall mark and the team’s lone loss since dropping the March 19 contest against St. Bonaventure, came against nationally ranked Princeton. Marist will be looking to add its fourth MAAC tournament crown this week, having hoisted the trophy in 2005, 2015, and 2019.

Top-seeded St. Bonaventure will face No. 4 Siena in the first semifinals match on Thursday at 4 p.m. Siena was the only MAAC team this season to defeat the top ranked Bonnies, earning a 14-11 win when the two sides met on April 16 in Loudonville, NY. The Saints secured their second consecutive postseason berth by winning the final three games of the regular season, two of which were league games. Siena is a three-time MAAC tournament champion, winning titles in 2009, 2011, and 2014. Thursday’s meeting will be the first ever playoff clash between the two teams.

The second semifinal matchup will feature tournament host Marist taking on No. 3 Manhattan at 7 p.m. During the regular season, the teams met on April 16, with Marist coming away with a slim 13-12 win at Manhattan. The Jaspers clinched their spot in the playoff field by winning three out of the final four games of the season. 2021’s regular season champion and tournament runner-up, Manhattan seeks its first MAAC title in over two decades, winning its only tournament in 2002. When the Red Foxes and Jaspers face-off on Thursday, it will be the second postseason game between the two, with the only other meeting occurring in 2004 when fourth-seeded Manhattan upset top-seeded Marist 10-7.
