EDISON, NJ (Sep. 12, 2022) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today officially announced the 2022-23 Men's Basketball conference slate.
All 11 MAAC institutions will play a 20-game conference schedule, seeing every opponent once at home and once on the road.
Conference play tips off with an early December week, starting Thursday, Dec. 1 through Sunday, Dec. 4. During that timeframe, 10 teams will see action as Canisius College, Fairfield University, Iona University, Mount St. Mary’s University, Niagara University, and Saint Peter’s University are scheduled to play two games apiece, while Manhattan College, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, and Siena College will play one contest each. The remainder of the conference schedule will take place from Sunday, Dec. 18 through Saturday, Mar. 4.
The 2022-23 campaign will conclude with the 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships from Mar. 7-11 in Atlantic City, NJ. The historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall will once again play host to the championships for the fourth-straight season. The conference tournament champion will earn the league's automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament.
Last season, Saint Peter’s University claimed the 2022 MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship, their fourth MAAC title in program history, and first since 2011. Following the 2022 MAAC Championship title, the Peacocks made an unprecedented run to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament, becoming the first MAAC program (men or women) to advance past the Sweet Sixteen and becoming the first ever No. 15 seed – and lowest seeded team in NCAA history – to advance to the Elite Eight.
Highlights of the 2022-23 Schedule:
- 10 teams will open the conference schedule from Thursday, Dec. 1 to Sunday, Dec. 4. Manhattan hosts Fairfield and Saint Peter’s will welcome MAAC newcomer Mount St. Mary’s on Thursday, while Iona and Siena will play host to Niagara and Canisius, respectively on Friday. The weekend will see Fairfield hosting Saint Peter’s, and Rider visiting Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday, while Sunday will feature Iona hosting Canisius and Quinnipiac hosting Niagara.
- In their first conference game of their inaugural season in the MAAC, Mount St. Mary’s will play Saint Peter’s on Thursday, Dec. 1 as the Mountaineers, who reached the 2021-22 NEC Tournament semifinals, will face first-year head coach Bashir Mason and the defending MAAC champion Peacocks at Run Baby Run Arena in Jersey City, NJ.
- Fairfield will host its first-ever game at the new On-Campus Arena on Saturday, Dec. 3 when the Stags host Saint Peter’s.
