EDISON, NJ (Sep. 21, 2022) – Iona’s Joshua DeSouza and Quinnipiac’s Aryanah Diaz have been named the Hercules Tires Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Student-Athletes of the Week.

Joshua DeSouza finished the Michael Byrne Men's Championship 8k event as the second-place finisher with his time of 24:59.2, leading the Gaels to a first-place team finish at the 27th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park. DeSouza led four Gaels among the top six in the victory. Iona is now ranked No. 30 in the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men’s Cross-Country National Poll.

Diaz recorded a double-double in back-to-back contests this past weekend on the road at Niagara and Canisius to open MAAC play. Diaz opened the weekend with 26 kills and 11 digs against the Purple Eagles and followed with 18 kills and 15 digs against the Golden Griffins on Sunday. After the opening weekend of MAAC action, Diaz is tied for the lead in kills (44) and second for total points (46) in MAAC-only games.
