Marist Recap

The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team used goals from Elle Scott and Hannah Vogt to move to 2-0 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a 2-1 victory over visiting Marist on Saturday night. With the victory, the Stags have won seven-straight home matches dating back to last season including a perfect 5-0 clip in 2022. The Stags attempted a season-high 22 shots with 11 of those being on target. Fairfield was the first team on the board in the 16th minute as they took advantage of the first corner kick of the match. Maddie Mills presided over the set piece and sent the service to the back post where Elle Scott was able to get her right foot on the ball and push it past the keeper for her third goal of the season. The Stags would double their advantage in the second half when Maddy Theriault sent a cross to the middle of the box where Marist goalkeeper Natalie Kelchner was able to dive and hit the ball away, but right to a wide-open Vogt who was able to hit the back of the net for her first collegiate score. Marist would scratch across their lone score of the match on a long shot from Amanda Caldarelli in the 70th minute. The Red Foxes would threaten to score the equalizer, but the Fairfield defense would allow just two Marist shots in the final 20 minutes. Kelchner finished with nine saves for Marist.

Iona Recap
Mount St. Mary’s Recap

The Iona University women's soccer team earned its first MAAC win over Mount St. Mary's at Mazzella Field on Saturday. Samantha Hogan's 86th minute tally proved to be the game-winning goal. In the first-ever meeting between the two sides as conference opponents, the Gaels came away with the first blow in the 20th minute. Sofia Banegas let a right-footed shot go that hit the inside of the post and bounced into the net. Katie Bulich and Hogan had the assists on Banegas' second goal of her sophomore campaign. The Mount found the equalizer in the 39th minute when Amani Green converted on a corner kick off a pass from Kalli Bell. The score held heading into the halftime break and well into the second half. Late in the second stanza, Iona had what would've been a go-ahead goal called offsides, just as the Mountaineers did in the first half. After that deflating moment, Madison Lennon had a would-be goal saved on the goal line by a Mount defender, once again keeping the score tied at 1-1. Despite that, the Maroon & Gold continued to push and the persistence paid off when Hogan flared a shot that bent around the outstretched arms of Drew Camp in net, who finished with seven saves for the Mount. The 86th minute strike was the decisive goal in a 2-1 victory for Iona, its first in conference play in the 2022 season.

Annie Ibey (4’), Emma Bough (31’), and Ebba Noren (43’) found the back of the net and goalkeeper Agnes Stenlund picked up her first career clean sheet in the win. Noren found the back of the net in the final five minutes of the first half when Zoe Janes and Lauren DiPietro connected with the sophomore for NU's third and final tally of the contest. Manhattan got seven saves from Aubrey Johnstone, who was making her first start of the season, but could not get their own chances at the other end of the pitch. Quinnipiac Recap
Canisius Recap

Rebecca Cooke scored the game's lone goal in the first half of action, leading Quinnipiac women's soccer past Canisius 1-0 on the road on Saturday afternoon. Goalkeeper Sofia Lospinoso and the Quinnipiac defense recorded a clean sheet – their third of the season and second in as many games. The Bobcats move to 2-0 in MAAC play with the victory, outscoring league opponents 5-0 in a pair of wins thus far in 2022. The Bobcats got on the board in the 14th minute as Paige LaBerge played the ball up ahead to Cooke. The Preseason MAAC Player of the Year tracked down possession, then chipped the ball over the Canisius keeper's head and into the back of the net. Goalkeeper Jordan Spencer made two saves in goal for Canisius, who had their own four-game unbeaten streak halted with the setback. Canisius' best chance to get on the scoreboard came in the 50th minute, as Emma Oliphant unleashed a shot from the top of the box that forced Lospinoso to make a diving save to keep the ball out of the net.

Rider Recap
Saint Peter’s Recap

Senior Camryn Dees contributed to all three of the Rider University women's soccer team's goals Saturday night as the Broncs defeated Saint Peter's, 3-0, on Ben Cohen Field. Dees scored what proved to be the game winner in the 24th minute, before setting up goals from Lindsey Maslow and Hailey Russell later in the half. Dees got the Broncs on the board off a short corner with Maslow in the 24th minute, lofting a shot high over the scrum in front, off the right post and into the back of the net. Just over three minutes later, it was Dees collected a bad Saint Peter's pass and went the other way with a perfect thru ball that set Maslow up one-v-one with Saint Peter's goalkeeper Olivia Mackethan. Maslow took her time, dribbled around the charging Mackethan and deposited into the back of the net. For good measure, Russell added an insurance goal at the 43-minute mark with a rocket from 30 yards out off another Dees assist. The Dees pass set up Russell in space, before she sent her shot high over Mackethan, but underneath the crossbar for her first goal of the season. Neither team would score in the second half, with Rider goalkeeper Ellie Sciancalepore making two saves to secure her third clean sheet of the year.
