Quinnipiac’s Svecula, Rider’s Salama, and Niagara’s Cintra Named Wilson MAAC Men’s Soccer Weekly Award Winners

Offensive Player of the Week
Tomas Svecula, Quinnipiac

Tomas Svecula led Quinnipiac with four goals in two games last week. The graduate forward both of the Bobcat’s goals against Manhattan on Wednesday in a one-goal setback. Then on Saturday, he scored the equalizer in Quinnipiac's first MAAC win over Niagara before adding an insurance tally later in the contest. Svecula has scored five goals in his last three matches.
 
Defensive Player of the Week
Adam Salama, Rider

Salama allowed just one goal in the Broncs' two road wins this week. He was the difference maker, stopping a penalty kick in each of the two wins by one goal differentials. He made six saves on the week, including four at Mount St. Mary's and two at Marist. His 1-0 shutout at Mount St. Mary's was his fifth of the season.
 
Rookie of the Week
Dominic Cintra, Niagara
Fr., Toronto, Ontario, Forest Hill Colligate
 
Cintra tallied a goal and a pair of assists last week as Niagara went 1-1. Against Canisius, the freshman set up two of the Purple Eagle’s three goals. On Saturday at Quinnipiac, he scored the Purple Eagles' lone goal.
 
The 2023 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will take place from November 5-12. The six-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by the higher seed of each match. The opening round will take place on Sunday, November 5, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 9, and concluding with the championship match on Sunday, November 12. Current conference members include: Canisius University, Fairfield University, Iona University, Manhattan College, Marist College, Mount St. Mary’s University, Niagara University, Quinnipiac University, Rider University, Saint Peter’s University, and Siena College. Merrimack College and Sacred Heart University will join the MAAC as full members in the 2024-25 academic year, expanding the conference to 13 institutions.
