Jacksonville Women’s Rowing Picked as Favorite to Repeat in 2023 MAAC Preseason Coaches’ Polls

EDISON, NJ (Mar. 1, 2023) – Jacksonville University has been voted as the preseason favorite in the 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Rowing Preseason Coaches’ Poll, as voted on by the league's 11 head coaches. 
 
The defending champion, Jacksonville garnered 119 points and nine first-place votes. The Dolphins returned to the top of the MAAC last season, capturing all three grand final races en route to the title. Jacksonville finished the 2022 Championship with a perfect 54-point total, earning victories in the Varsity Four, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Eight claiming the program’s sixth overall conference title, its first since winning five straight league titles from 2014 through 2018.
 
2022 runner-up, Marist College, finished eight points behind Jacksonville in the poll, collecting 111 points and the final two first-place votes. The Red Foxes have been the most dominate program in the conference, hoisting a MAAC-leading 12 championships trophies dating back to 1997, and earning the league title as recent as 2021.
 
Fairfield University was tabbed third, receiving 94 points, while Stetson University finished in fourth-place with 89 points and Sacred Heart University rounded out the top five accounting for 81 points.

The 2023 MAAC Women's Rowing Championship will take place at Fish Creek in Saratoga Springs, NY for the first time on May 12, 2023. Institutions will compete for the conference's automatic qualifier for the 2023 NCAA Division I Rowing Championship.
