2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship Field Set

EDISON, NJ (Mar. 4, 2023) – Following Saturday’s regular season finales, the field is officially set for the 2023 Hercules Tire Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Basketball Championship. The annual conference tournament will take place from March 7-11 at historic Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, New Jersey.
 
The top-five teams in the field all earn a bye in the first round. Earning an opening round bye are back-to-back regular season champions, No. 1 Iona University (24-7, 17-3 MAAC), No. 2 Rider University (16-13, 13-7 MAAC), No. 3 Quinnipiac University (20-11, 11-9 MAAC), No. 4 Siena College (17-14, 11-9 MAAC), and No. 5 Niagara University (15-14, 10-10 MAAC).
 
The first-round tips-off on Tuesday, March 7 with three games on the docket. Tipping off the 2023 championship will be No. 8 Mount St. Mary’s (12-19, 8-12 MAAC) and No. 9 Canisius College (10-19, 8-12) at 5:00pm. In their inaugural season in the MAAC, the Mountaineers swept the Golden Griffins during the regular season. The Mount took the initial meeting in Buffalo, NY on Jan. 2, 64-60. On Feb. 19, Mount St. Mary’s edged Canisius, 75-74 in Emmitsburg, MD. The winner will meet No. 1 Iona in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 8 at 7:00pm.
 
In game two of the opening round, No. 7 Fairfield University (13-17, 9-11 MAAC) battles No. 10 Saint Peter’s (12-17, 7-13 MAAC) at 7:00pm. The Stags swept the regular season series, winning 67-55 on Dec. 3 at home in Fairfield, CT and then topped the Peacocks in Jersey City, NJ, 56-52 on Jan. 15. No. 2 Rider will await the winner of the contest for a date on March 8 in the quarters at 9:30pm.
 
The final game of the opening round will tip at 9:00pm on Tuesday night and it will feature No. 6 Manhattan College (12-17, 10-10 MAAC) against No. 11 Marist College (10-19, 6-14 MAAC). The visiting side was triumphed in both regular season contests between the teams which split their pair of games in 2023. The Jaspers won game one on Dec. 19 by a comfortable score of 80-69 in Poughkeepsie, NY, while the Red Foxes dominated in the final matchup, 81-58 on Feb. 24 in Riverdale, NY. The victor will have a day off before clashing with No. 3 Quinnipiac in the first game of day two’s quarterfinals on Thursday, March 9 at 7:00pm.
 
The final quarterfinal round game will feature No. 4 Siena and No. 5 Niagara on Thursday at 9:30pm. The Saints and Purple Eagles split their regular season series, with the road team winning both games. On Jan. 13, the Saints defeated the Purple Eagles, 70-64, while Niagara snagged a 56-54 victory over Siena on Feb. 5.
 
All 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s Basketball Championship games will be broadcasted on ESPN+. Friday’s two semifinal games will simulcast on ESPNews and Saturday’s championship title game will air on ESPNU in primetime at 7:30pm.
