2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Women’s Basketball Tournament Field is Set

Edison, NJ (Mar. 4, 2023) – After the conclusion of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women’s basketball regular season on Saturday, the field is now set for the 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship. The 2023 MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship will take place March 7-11 at Atlantic City’s Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall.
 
Each of the top five regular season finishers will earn a first round bye in the tournament. Regular season champion Iona University earns this year’s top seed (23-6, 18-2 MAAC), the second seed is Niagara University (17-11, 16-4 MAAC), the third seed is Quinnipiac University (21-8, 16-4 MAAC), the fourth seed is Siena College (18-12, 12-8 MAAC) and the fifth seed Fairfield University (15-14, 11-9 MAAC) claims the final first round bye.
 
The opening round begins on Tuesday, March 7 with three games set to take place. The first opening round game will tip off at 10:30 a.m. with No. 8 Mount St. Mary’s University (11-18, 7-13 MAAC) taking on No. 9 Canisius College (9-20, 6-14 MAAC). Mount St. Mary’s swept the season series between the school’s picking up a 68-58 win over Canisius on 1/14 and a 55-44 win on 2/27.
 
The winner of the opening round game between No. 8 Mount St. Mary’s and No. 9 Canisius will face the No. 1 seed Iona on Wednesday, March 8 at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals. 
 
Game two of the opening round will take place between No. 7 Marist College (12-17, 8-12 MAAC) and No. 10 Rider University (9-20, 6-14 MAAC) at 12:30 p.m. Rider swept Marist during the regular season; defeating Marist 60-54 in their 2/9 matchup and 66-63 in an overtime win on the last day of the regular season.
 
The winner of the second opening round game between No. 7 Marist and No. 10 Rider will face No. 2 seed Niagara on Wednesday, March 8 at 3 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
 
The final game of the opening round will be between No.6 Manhattan College (13-16, 10-10 MAAC) and No. 11 Saint Peter’s University (0-29, 0-20 MAAC) at 2:30 p.m. Manhattan swept Saint Peter’s during conference play with a 57-44 win over Saint Peter’s on 2/4 and a 67-57 win on 2/18.
 
The winner of the final opening round matchup between No. 6 Manhattan and No. 11 Saint Peter’s will face No. 3 Quinnipiac on Thursday, March 9 at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
 
 
In the final matchup of quarterfinal round on Thursday, March 9, No. 4 Siena College will take on No. 5 Fairfield University at 3:30 p.m. Siena swept Fairfield in conference play, picking up a 61-46 victory on 1/5 and a 55-51 overtime win on 1/19.
 
 
The 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Women’s Basketball Championship games will be broadcasted on ESPN+. Saturday’s championship title game will be simulcast on ESPNU.
