MAAC Announces 2022-23 Women’s Basketball All-Rookie Team

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Mar. 6, 2023) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) announces its 2022-23 Women’s Basketball All-Rookie Team. The All-Rookie team is voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.
 
The 2022-23 MAAC All-Rookie team features Canisius College’s Sisi Eleko, Quinnipiac University’s Ella O’Donnell, Jada Leonard and Jada Williams from Saint Peter’s University, and Elisa Mevius and Teresa Seppala from Siena College.
 
Canisius’ Sisi Eleko was a five-time Rookie of the Week selection and averaged 8.6 points per game.  The Montreal, Quebec native started in 23 contests for the Griff’s and Eleko scored in double figures in 14 contests on the season. Eleko also led Canisius in rebounding, averaging 5.5 per game.
 
Quinnipiac’s Ella O’Donnell earns a place on the All-Rookie team after averaging 4.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 1.1 assists. The first-year player from Shankill, Ireland started in 15 games for The Bobcats and scored in double figures in five contests on the year.
 
All-Rookie team selection Jada Leonard from Saint Peter’s led the Peacocks in scoring with 10.2 points per game. The Bronx, NY native started 24 out of 29 games on the season and averaged 4.1 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.
 
Saint Peter’s forward Jada Williams averaged 9.3 points and 6.9 rebounds per game and shot a team leading 46.8% from the field to earn All-Rookie honors. Williams started in 23 games for Saint Peter’s on the season and averaged over 28 minutes of action per game.
                                                                                      
Siena’s Elisa Mevius was a unanimous All-Rookie Team selection. Mevius started 29 out of 30 games for Siena on the year and averaged 10.5 points, 4.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists per game. The freshman from Grunberg, Germany posted a career high 26 points in a 83-81 win against Niagara on 2/11, in which she hit the game winning three-pointer from half court. Mevius earned MAAC Rookie of the Week honors four times this season and was the only player this season to earn Rookie of the Week and Player of the Week honors in the same week.
 
Siena guard Teresa Seppala was a unanimous All-Rookie Team selection after earning MAAC Rookie of the Week honors seven times this season. The freshman from Tampere, Finland boasted averages of 10.9 points and 6.1 rebounds and led Siena with a 38.2% three-point field goal percentage.
