ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (Mar. 8, 2023) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) has announced that Iona University’s Billi Chambers has been named the unanimous 2022-23 Women’s Basketball Coach of the Year. The Coach of the Year award is voted on by the league’s 11 head coaches.
Chambers was selected as Coach of the Year after leading Iona to a 2022-23 MAAC Regular Season Championship with an 18-2 MAAC record, and 23-6 overall record. This season Iona led the MAAC in team field goal percentage (0.477), three-point field goal percentage (0.407), three-point field goals made (7.7), and assists (15.3).
This is the second MAAC Coach of the Year honor for Chambers, as she previously won the award in 2013-14 during her first season in the MAAC.
Now in her tenth season at the helm, Chambers has led Iona to berths in the WNIT (2014) and the NCAA tournament (2016), after she led Iona to its first Women’s Basketball MAAC tournament championship in program history.
Iona enters the 2023 MAAC Championship as the top seed and will begin tournament play on Wednesday at 1 p.m. after earning a first round bye.
The 2022-23 campaign culminates with the 2023 Hercules Tires MAAC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Championships from March 7-11 at Atlantic City's Jim Whelan Boardwalk Hall for the fourth consecutive year.
