2024 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship Action Starts Sunday

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 1, 2024) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Championship begins this Sunday, November 3 with the championships’ quarterfinals round. The field of eight includes top-seeded Fairfield University, No. 2 Quinnipiac University, No. 3 Canisius University, No. 4 Siena College, No. 5 Manhattan University, No. 6 Merrimack College, No. 7 Iona University, and No. 8 Sacred Heart University. All championship matches will be hosted by the higher seed of the contest and all games will air live on ESPN+.

No. 1 seed Fairfield Stags closed out the regular season with a 10-1-1 (31 points) MAAC mark and overall tally of 15-2-1, clinching the top seed in the field. The Stags enter the postseason on a three-game winning streak, looking to claim their program’s eighth MAAC title. Fairfield is making its sixthstraight MAAC postseason appearance and the program owns the most overall championship titles for current members with seven --- seeking its first since 2008. Facing their cross-town rival, the Pioneer’sare gearing up for their first MAAC postseason appearance in 2024. The Pioneers hold the eighth seed and enter the post season with a 3-5-4 MAAC record and 3-10-5 overall record. The last championship title Sacred Heart won was in 2001 when they claimed the NEC Championship title over current MAAC member, Quinnipiac. Sacred Heart drew against Saint Peter’s on the final day of the regular season to earn the final spot in the field.
 
The teams met during the regular season back on October 16 at Sacred Heart, where the Pioneers earned a 2-1 win over the Stags. The setback for the Stags was their lone MAAC defeat of the season.

Reigning MAAC Champions Quinnipiac are the No. 2 seed in the championship and are looking to claim the program’s third straight MAAC title. The Bobcats enter the postseason with a 10-2 MAAC record (30 points), 12-4-1 overall. Quinnipiac has qualified for postseason play nine consecutive seasons, dating back to 2016. This team will look to become the first back-to-back-to-back champions since former MAAC member Monmouth claimed four straight titles from 2016 through 2019. Taking on the Bobcats is No. 7 Iona. The Gaels come into the quarterfinals with a 4-6-2 MAAC record and are hoping to claim their program’s second MAAC title. The last time Iona appeared in the postseason was in 2021 where they fell short to Siena, as a fifth seed.
 
Last Saturday, October 26, was the regular season meeting between the sides. Quinnipiac picked up a 2-1 home win over Iona in the contest.

No. 3 seed Canisius is appearing in the MAAC postseason for the third straight season after finishing the regular season with an 8-2-2 MAAC record. Canisius registered a .735 winning percentage, second best and tied with Quinnipiac, during the regular season, helping them secure a home game for the opening round. Merrimack finds themselves in the postseason as the sixth seed. Merrimack, the 2023 NEC regular season champions, enters their first MAAC postseason with a 5-5-2 MAAC record. The Warriors are entering the quarterfinals off a two-game win streak.
 
Canisius and Merrimack faced off on Saturday, September 7 in the MAAC opener in North Andover, MA. The Golden Griffins edged the Warriors 2-1 in the game.
 
No. 4 Siena (10-7-2, 7-3-2 MAAC) vs. No. 5 Manhattan (9-6-3, 5-4-3 MAAC)

The Siena Saints are the final host for the quarterfinals in the fourth seeded spot. The Saints are entering the postseason off a four-game win streak. This appearance is Siena’s first postseason appearance in three years and the Saints are seeking their fourth MAAC title in program history. The Manhattan Jaspers travel to Loudonville, NY to take on the Saints to begin their conquest for their program’s first MAAC title. This year marks the Jasper’s first postseason appearance since 2021 where they were the No. 5 seed as well.
 
Sunday will mark the second meeting between Siena and Manhattan in Loudonville, NY, after the two met earlier in the season on October 16, with the Saints earning a 3-0 shutout victory over the Jaspers.
 
The 2024 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 3-10, 2024. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, November 3, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 7, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 10.
