Fairfield secured their eight MAAC title in program history, their first MAAC Championship since 2008, with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Quinnipiac in a rematch of the 2023 title game. The Stags dominated possession and offensive chances throughout the match, registering 19 shots, with 7 on goal, compared to just 4 shots from the Bobcats. The decisive moment came in the 73rd minute when MAAC Golden Boot winner Maddy Theriault scored the lone goal of the game with a powerful header off a cross from Meghan Carragher. Theriault's clinical finish was enough to lift Fairfield to the top of the MAAC, securing them the automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Despite strong defensive efforts from Quinnipiac, including 6 saves from goalkeeper Sofia Lospinoso, the Bobcats struggled to generate offense, managing just 2 shots on target. Fairfield goalkeeper Katie Wright made 2 saves to preserve the shutout. The Stags also had the advantage in corner kicks, earning six to Quinnipiac's three. With the win, Fairfield punches their ticket to the NCAA Tournament, with the selection show scheduled for Monday, November 11th at 4 p.m. on NCAA.com. The Stags are ranked 8
th nationally in total goals and will ride a six-game win-streak into the NCAA tournament.
The 2024 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 3-10, 2024. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, November 3, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 7, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 10.
