EDISON, NJ (Nov. 4, 2024) – The Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) today announced the 2024 Women’s Soccer postseason awards, voted on by the league’s 13 head coaches.
Headlining major award winners was unanimous 2024 MAAC Golden Boot, Maddy Theriault of Fairfield University. A junior forward hailing from Palmer, MA, Theriault led the conference with 28 points, 12 goals, and six game-winning goals during the regular season. She also paced the MAAC in goals per game average (0.67), points per game average (1.56), shots per game (4.17), and shots on goal per game (2.00). Nationally, Theriault posted top-25 rankings in goals (16
th), points (19
th), shots average (21
st), goals average (23
rd), and shots on goal average (25
th). The 2022 MAAC Rookie of the year, she becomes a three-time All-MAAC First Team selection, having been voted to the league’s top team every year of her career. Theriault also becomes the first Fairfield honoree of the MAAC’s top offensive player award since Ahna Johnson in 2008 and the eighth overall from the Stags.
Canisius University’s Alicia Zamora was named as the 2024 MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. A graduate student playing in her first season at Canisius, Zamora appeared and started in 16 matches for the Golden Griffins, recording 13 points, behind six goals and one assist. She ranked sixth in the MAAC in game-winning goals, netting three on the season and her total goals were fifth best in the league during the year. Defensively, she helped anchor one of the league’s top units, which allowed 11 total goals and posted a .647 goals against average, both marks that led the conference in 2024. Zamora is the first ever defensive player of the year recipient from Canisius and she becomes just the fourth overall player of the year (offensive or defensive) from the Griffs, the first since Kelly Reinwald in 2010.
Earning her second straight MAAC Golden Glove award was Quinnipiac University goalkeeper, Sofia Lospinoso. Last season, she became the first Bobcat to garner the MAAC’s top goalkeeper award; this season she became the first-ever back-to-back goalkeeper of the year in MAAC history. For the second consecutive season, Lospinoso was the league leader in shutouts, posting 10 total clean sheets, nine of which came in MAAC play. The Kenilworth, NJ native won 11 overall games in goal and recorded 52 saves, a save percentage of .839, allowed 10 goals, and posted a goals against average of 0.65. Her goals against average was tied for first in the MAAC, while her 11 wins and save percentage both ranked second on the conference leaderboard in 2024.
The 2024 MAAC Rookie of the Year award went to Catherine Rogers from Siena College. A freshman midfielder from Webster, NY, Rogers recorded a stat line of seven goals, eight assists, 22 points, and one game-winning on 63 shots, in 19 starts for the Saints. She held season averages of 1.16 points, 0.42 assists, 0.37 goals, and 3.32 shots. Rogers was second among league players in shots, shots per game, and total assists. She ranked third in assists per game and total points, while also ranking fourth in points per game and tied for fifth in total goals. Rogers is the fifth overall Rookie of the Year from Siena, the second in as many years with her joining teammate Megan Stowell.
Claiming 2024 MAAC Coach of the Year honors was Fairfield’s David Barrett. He is now a two-time recipient of the league’s top coach honor, last winning the award in 2019. In his seventh season at the helm of the Stags, Barrett led Fairfield to its second MAAC Regular Season title in three years, after posting a 10-1-1 conference record, the most league wins in program history for Fairfield. His Stags led the MAAC in a league-high 11 statistical categories in 2024. Fairfield was the top scoring offense (2.56) in the conference, while also leading the way offensively in goals (46), points (130), assists average (2.11), total assists (38), goal differential (31), shots per game (21.11), and shots on goal per game (9.06). Additionally, Barrett’s unit posted a 0.861 won-lost-tied percentage, the fifth-best mark in the nation. The regular season title was the ninth overall in program history for the Stags as well.
Fairfield led the way with a league-high eight All-MAAC selections, which included five members on the first team, a mark that also led the conference. Quinnipiac and Canisius followed, placing seven and six total athletes on teams, respectively.
