2024 MAAC Women’s Soccer Postseason Play Continues on Thursday in Connecticut with the Semifinal Round

EDISON, NJ. (Nov. 6, 2024) - The 2024 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship continues this week with the remaining four teams continuing their MAAC title pursuit in the semifinal round on Thursday, November 7, with both games being played in the state of Connecticut. No. 2 Quinnipiac is set to host No. 3 Canisius at 1pm at Quinnipiac Soccer & Lacrosse Stadium in Hamden and No.1 Fairfield is set to host No. 5 Manhattan at 7pm at Lessing Field in Fairfield.

Appearing in the semifinal round for the third straight year, the Quinnipiac Bobcats are in pursuit of their third straight MAAC title. Quinnipiac pushed past Iona in the quarterfinal round, 1-0, with a goal from Aisling Spillane. Taking on the Bobcats, No. 3 Canisius enters the semifinals coming off a 2-0 victory over Merrimack. The Golden Griffins offense had two goals, one from All-MAAC First Team forward Madeline Weltin and the other from junior Lizzy Harkness. Both teams have All-MAAC goalkeepers in net, Sofia Lospinoso from Quinnipiac, who was a first-team selection and MAAC Golden Glove recipient, and Jordan Spencer from Canisius, who was a third-team selection.
 
The last time these two teams met in the regular season was in October when Quinnipiac bested Canisius, 1-0, and the last time the Bobcats and Golden Griffins met in the postseason was in the semifinal round of the 2022 MAAC Championship, which resulted in a Bobcat victory.

The top-seeded Fairfield Stags and No. 5 Manhattan Jaspers are set to face off on Thursday evening at Lessing Field. Fairfield is coming off a 1-0 victory over cross-town rival Sacred Heart. All-MAAC first-team midfielder selection Reagan Klarmann was able to find the back of the net for the Stags early in the second half. The Stag’s defensive backline allowed just one Sacred Heart shot in the 90 minutes, coming in the 37th minute. The Stags are appearing in their fourth straight semifinal game in recent postseason history. Manhattan enters the semifinal round after upending No. 4 Siena with a thrilling Olivia McMaster goal that occurred with just 76 seconds left in the match. The last time the Jaspers appeared in the semifinals was in 2017.
 
The Stags and the Jaspers met in the regular season in early October and Fairfield won, 2-0.
 
The 2024 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 3-10, 2024. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, November 3, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 7, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 10.
