No. 1 Iona welcomes No. 8 Mount St. Mary’s in the quarterfinal round on Sunday in New Rochelle, NY, with first kick set for 1:00 p.m. Iona, the back-to-back MAAC Regular Season Champions (co-champions this year), finished 2024 with a 6-1-1 MAAC mark (19 points), claiming the third regular season trophy in program history. The Gaels are back in the postseason for the seventh time over the past eight seasons and they will be the No. 1 overall seed in the championship for the second straight year (by virtue of head-to-head tiebreaker over Rider) after recording an unbeaten home record in conference play for the second consecutive season (3-0-1). Iona has finished as championship runner-up in back-to-back years, with the program’s lone MAAC Championship coming in 2019. A member of the conference dating back to 2022, this will be the Mountaineers first postseason appearance in 16 years, last making the NEC tournament in 2008. That season, Mount St. Mary’s fell in the championship title match, and the program will be seeking its first ever men’s soccer championship at the Division I level. With the unbalanced MAAC schedule, the two teams did not meet during the regular season. The last matchup between the two sides occurred over a year ago, when Iona defeated Mount St. Mary’s 2-1, on October 28, 2023 during a regular season meeting in New Rochelle.
