Quinnipiac and Fairfield Secure Their Spots in 2024 Women’s Soccer Championship Match

EDISON, NJ. (Nov. 7, 2024)- The semifinals of the 2024 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship concluded with Fairfield beating Mnahattan and Quinnipiac beating Canisius, securing their spots in the Championship game on Sunday, November 10. The games will be hosted by Fairfield University and kickoff is set for 1pm. This game is a rematch of the 2023 MAAC Championship.

In a dominant semifinal performance, the Fairfield Stags defeated the Manhattan Jaspers 4-1 to advance to the championship game, continuing their home winning streak of 15 games, the longest in the country.  Fairfield opened the scoring early, with Sam Kersey finding the back of the net in the 4th minute off an assist from Ashlyn Walsh and Elle Scott. Caroline Kelly doubled the lead in the 12th minute, assisted by Kendall Patten. Despite a penalty kick goal from Manhattan’s Julia Nicholas in the 27th minute, Fairfield extended their advantage just before halftime with Alex Darcy's goal at the 41:38 mark. Kersey sealed the win with her second goal of the game in the 50th minute, assisted by Caroline Kelly and Maddy Theriault. Fairfield dominated the shot count, registering 23 shots with 13 on goal, while Manhattan managed only four shots, three of which were on target. Stags goalkeeper Katie Wright made two saves, while Manhattan's Molly Brunk recorded nine stops.
 
 Fairfield will host #2 Quinnipiac in the championship match on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Quinnipiac Bobcats secured a 3-1 victory over the Canisius Golden Griffins in the MAAC semifinal to advance to their third consecutive championship game. Courtney Chochol broke the deadlock early in the second half, scoring in the 51st minute. Just three minutes later, Aisling Spillane doubled the lead with a goal assisted by Rachel Roman and Klara Bengtsson. Spillane added another goal in the 83rd minute, once again assisted by Roman, to put Quinnipiac in control. Canisius responded with a late goal from Mia Iacona in the 87th minute, assisted by Skylar Cornell and Azaria Fagan, but it was too late. Quinnipiac outshot Canisius 14-7, with 6 shots on goal compared to 4 for the Griffins. Quinnipiac goalkeeper Sofia Lospinoso made three saves, while Canisius keeper Jordan Spencer recorded two saves. The Bobcats will now face Fairfield in the championship game on Sunday at 1 p.m.
 
 
 
The 2024 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship is an eight-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 3-10, 2024. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The quarterfinals will take place on Sunday, November 3, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 7, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 10.
