Jacksonville Secures Third Straight MAAC Women’s Rowing Championship Title

PENNSAUKEN TOWNSHIP, NJ (May 19, 2024) – The Jacksonville University Dolphins won the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Rowing Championship on Sunday afternoon at Cooper River in Pennsauken Township, NJ, capturing all three grand final races en route to its third straight league title. Jacksonville finished the day with a perfect 42-point total, earning victories in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, and Varsity Four, claiming the program’s eighth overall conference title.
 
The afternoon began with the Second Varsity Four, with Jacksonville taking first-place (08:26.419). Coming in second-place was Marist College (08:31.869), followed by Sacred Heart A boat (08:36.187).

The first team scoring race of the day would be the Varsity Four Grand Final. Jacksonville crossed the finish line first at 08:07.744, followed by Sacred Heart with a close runner-up finishing time of 08:10.238. Fairfield came in third-place, finishing the event in 08:24.554.
 
In the Second Varsity Eight Grand Final, the Dolphins earned their third gold medal of the afternoon, winning by open water with by a margin of 05.826. Jacksonville finished the race in a time of 07:27.742. Second-place finisher, Fairfield, completed the race in 07:33.568 and Sacred Heart came in third-place with a time of 07:37.598.
 
The last grand final of the day, the highest scoring event, was the Varsity Eight Grand Final. Jacksonville would complete the day’s sweep with another dominating open water victory, winning by a margin of 08.985 over runner-up Sacred Heart. The Dolphins earned gold with a finishing time of 07:05.185, while the Pioneers received silver after posting a 07:14.170 finishing time, and bronze medalist Marist finished in a time of 07:19.377.
 
Coming in second place on the final team standings was Sacred Heart, scoring 34 points. Fairfield placed third, totaling 29 points, while Marist finished just behind them in fourth-place, with 25 points. Stetson followed with 20 points and a fifth-place finish, Drake was sixth scoring nine points and Canisius tallied six points to close out the team standings.

Following the conclusion of the championship, the MAAC announced that Jacksonville head coach Mike Lane was named the 2024 MAAC Women’s Rowing Coach of the Year. Additionally, the MAAC released the complete 2024 MAAC Women’s Rowing All-MAAC Teams. The full list can be found below:

Jacksonville earns the MAAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Women’s Rowing Championship. The Dolphins will learn who they will compete against on Tuesday, May 21 at 5:00 p.m. when the complete field is revealed during the NCAA Selection Show which will broadcast live on NCAA.com.
