Sacred Heart and Manhattan To Meet in MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Title Match

RIVERDALE, N.Y. (May 2, 2024)- The semifinal round of the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Lacrosse Championship continued Thursday, May 2, at Manhattan College’s Gaelic Park in Riverdale, NY. Sacred Heart and Manhattan will meet in the title match on Saturday, May 4, after claiming semifinal round victories.

In a thrilling back-and-forth battle, Sacred Heart pushed past Siena, 15-13, to earn their spot in the MAAC Championship. The Pioneers controlled the scoreboard for the first three quarters, taking their largest, seven-point lead, in third period. The tides turned in the fourth period when Siena got hot and went on to score three goals in a row, putting the score 12-9. With three minutes remaining, the Saints narrowed the score gap as Pratt Reynolds found the back of the net, dished out by Patrick Radomski. Sacred Heart’s Morgan O’Reilly scored with 0:42 seconds and it was quickly answered by Siena’s Patrick Linton. Down to the last ten seconds, Carson Spooner, scored the game winning goal. Sacred Heart will take on Manhattan in the title match.
 
Sacred Heart Notes
- Alex Pazienza made a career-high 19 saves in-between the pipes, coming up huge in the final two minutes to secure the win.
-Jake Ward led the Pioneer offense with four goals, followed by Morgan O’Reilly with three goals.
- SHU picks up its first MAAC postseason win and extended their win streak to 10
 
Siena Notes
-Eight Saints scored for the Siena led by Pratt Reynolds who scored three times.
-Ryan McCarthy dished out four assists.
-In goal, Andrew Arcuri had nine saves on the day.

Game two of the MAAC semifinals was an airtight battle between the No.2 and No. 3 seeds. LIU got the early lead and the first half ended tied up 3-3. Five minutes into third quarter, the Jaspers claimed the lead by scoring three goals in a row. The fourth quarter was electric as LIU’s Drew Togno tied it up 7-7. With 4:17 remaining Manhattan’s Quinn Bowler scored the game winning goal to seal the deal. The Jaspers return to the MAAC Championship to hopefully repeat the same outcome as they did in 2022.
 
Manhattan Notes
-Scott O'Connor and James Basile led the Jasper offense with two goals each.
-Kelly DuPree dished out three assists.
-In the circle, Manhattan’s James Hogan won 12 of 18 face-offs.
-Connor Hapward tallied eight saves.
 
LIU Notes
- The Sharks won a program-best 10 games since its Division I inception.
-Sean Boll finished the game with four goals.
- In goal, Sean Gillman stopped eight shots.
 
The 2024 MAAC Men's Lacrosse Championship title game will take place on Saturday, May 4 at 11am and be broadcasted live on ESPNU.
