Sacred Heart Claims 2024 MAAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship Title

RIVERDALE, N.Y. (May 4, 2024)- No.1 Sacred Heart captured the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Lacrosse Championship title on Saturday, May 4 at Manhattan College’s Gaelic Field in Riverdale, N.Y. The Pioneers defeated No. 3 Jaspers, 11-5, securing their program’s first MAAC crown and punched their first ticket to the NCAA Tournament.

The Championship game was exciting battle between Sacred Heart and Manhattan. The Jaspers came out hot, scoring three goals in the first five minutes., two of those goals came from Quinn Bowler. Sacred Heart’s Michael Moreschi got the Pioneers on the board with seven minutes on the clock in the first period. Coming out for the second period, the Pioneers tied the score 4-4 with a Tucker Spencer goal and two minutes later, Morgan O’Reilly found the back of the net and put the Pioneers on top.
Coming into the second half, the Pioneers had control and kept the Jaspers scoreless. Spencer and O’Reilly netted four goals of the period, Spencer with three and O’Reilly had one. The Pioneers kept the Jaspers scorelss in the third.
The fourth quarter was a defensive battle, only seeing two goals.  Tucker Spencer scored his sixth and final goal of the goal and Manhattan’s Kevin Jaffe scored the final goal of the contest.
 
Sacred Heart Notes
- Tucker Spencer had an electric performance, scoring six goals for the Pioneers.
-O’Reilly, Moreschi, Brown, and Spooner also contributed to the Sacred Heart offensive effort.
-Jake Ward dished out three assists.
-In goal, Alex Pazienza had 15 saves on the day.
- Sacred Heart claimed their first MAAC title and their first appearance in the NCAA tournament.
 
 
Manhattan Notes
-Quinn Bowler led the Jaspers in scoring with two goals.
-Connor Hapward tallied nine saves for Manhattan
-James Hogan picked up six ground balls.
-Manhattan finishes the season with an 8-10 overall record and a 6-3 MAAC record.
 
Sacred Heart earns the MAAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Men’s Lacrosse Championship. The Pioneers will find out their opponent during the Division I Men’s Lacrosse Selection Show Sunday, May 5 at 9:30 p.m. on ESPN2.
