2025 Women’s Soccer Championship First Round Preview

EDISON, NJ (Oct. 30, 2025) The 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Women’s Soccer Championship begins this Sunday, November 2 with the championships’ first round. The field of six includes top-seeded Fairfield University, No. 2 Quinnipiac University, No. 3 Canisius University, No. 4 Sacred Heart University, No. 5 Siena University, and No. 6 Marist University. All championship matches will be hosted by the higher seed of the contest, and all games will air live on ESPN+. 
 
The Fairfield Stags clinched the MAAC Regular Season Championship with a 3-0 win over Niagara on Saturday, October 25. Compiling a record of 10-0-2, (32 points) in conference play, the Stags 32 points are the most in a MAAC regular season history, and the team will hold homefield advantage at Lessing Field in Fairfield, CT for the duration of the tournament. Heading into the final week of the regular season, Fairfield was nationally ranked at No. 25 by Top Drawer Soccer. The Stags lead the nation in penalty kicks and is ranked top five in the nation in shots per game and won, lost, tied percentage. The Stags lead the conference in 13 statistical categories, the most notable being their total goals, assists, and shutout percentage. After claiming the 2024 MAAC Championship Title and the 2024 MAAC Regular Season Championship, Fairfield is making its seventh straight MAAC postseason appearance and enter the postseason on a seven-game winning streak. Remaining unbeaten in over two months and over their last sixteen contests, dating back to their matchup with Rutgers on August 17, Fairfield completed its first unbeaten MAAC season since 2002, (8-0-1). The Stags receive a first-round bye and will host the lowest remaining seed in the semifinal round of the MAAC Championship. 
 
The Quinnipiac Bobcats closed out the regular season with an 8-0-4 (28 points) MAAC record, clinching the No. 2 seed in the field for a second consecutive year. The Bobcats enter the postseason with an unbeaten record in their last 12 matches, and a four-game winning streak making this their 10th straight MAAC postseason appearance since joining the conference. The last time the Bobcats went unbeaten in the MAAC was in 2023, when they closed out the season with 9-0-1 record. The Bobcats lead the conference in corner kicks and are ranked behind Fairfield in points per game, assists per game, and won, lost, tied percentage. Nationally, the Bobcats are top five in the nation in corner kicks per game. The Bobcats will receive a first-round bye and will host the highest remaining seed in the semifinals of the MAAC Championship.  
 
No. 3 Canisius (7-8-1, 7-4-1 MAAC) vs. No. 6 Marist (6-7-5, 5-2-5 MAAC)

No. 3 Canisius will clash with No. 6 Marist on Sunday, November 2 in Buffalo, NY in the first round of the MAAC Championship. The Golden Griffins secured third place by way of a 7-4-1 MAAC record, (22 points), earning their fifth straight MAAC postseason appearance. During the regular season, the Golden Griffins opened up conference play with a four game winning streak helping them clinch their postseason spot. Canisius is top five in the conference on their shot accuracy. The Red Foxes locked in the sixth seed with 20 points and a 5-2-5 record in the MAAC qualifying for their first postseason appearance since 2022 where they lost to Niagara in the first round, 3-1. The two teams met in the regular season this year on Saturday, October 18 where the Red Foxes topped the Saints, 2-0 in Poughkeepsie, NY. 
 
No. 4 Sacred Heart (9-8-1, 7-5 MAAC) vs. No. 5 Siena (9-4-6, 6-3-3 MAAC)

The first round will commence with No. 4 Sacred Heart hosting No. 5 Siena in Fairfield, CT. The Pioneers collected 21 points, going 7-5 in the MAAC and clinching their post season spot for the second year in a row. The Pioneers secured their spot in the championship field after putting together a five-game winning streak in the middle of the season from September 27 – October 11, where they outscored their opponents 12-1. The Saints finished off their regular season with a 6-3-3 MAAC record totaling 18 points. The Saints appear in the postseason for the second year in a row and have seen success in the postseason by advancing to the semifinals two times out of their last three appearances. The Saints won the MAAC Championship in the 2020-2021 season where they beat former MAAC member, Monmouth, 4-2 in penalty kicks. The Saints lead the conference in shutouts and save percentage. The two teams met in the regular season where the Pioneers topped the Saints 1-0 in Loudonville, NY on October, 1. 
 
The 2025 MAAC Women’s Soccer Championship is a six-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 2-9, 2025. Each match during the championship will be hosted by the higher seed and all rounds of the championship will reseed. The first round will take place on Sunday, November 2, followed by the semifinals on Thursday, November 6, and concluding with the championship final on Sunday, November 9.
