2025 MAAC Volleyball Championship First Round Opens Tuesday

EDISON, NJ (Nov. 17, 2025) – The 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball Championship starts this Tuesday, November 18 with the first round. The championship field will feature six teams, which include: No. 1 Fairfield University, No. 2 Quinnipiac University, No. 3 Rider University, No. 4 Niagara University, No. 5 Canisius University, and No. 6 Siena University. The First round of the championship will be hosted by Rider and Niagara in Lawrenceville, NJ and Niagara Falls NY, respectively, while the semifinals and championship match will take place at top-seeded Fairfield in Fairfield, CT. All matches will stream live on ESPN+.  

 
The Fairfield Stags secured their seventh straight MAAC Regular Season title with a 17-1 conference record, clinching on the final day of the regular season on November 15. Following a 0-3 loss to Quinnipiac on October 24 in Hamden, CT, the Stags responded with an eight-match winning streak to close out conference play. Fairfield enters the post season with a 23-5 overall record and are 11-1 at home, with their only home loss coming on September 19 in a tight 2-3 battle against UConn. This year marks Fairfield’s 31st appearance in the MAAC Championship where they aim to capture their 15th conference title. Throughout the regular season, The Stags led the MAAC in hitting percentage (.283), kills per set (13.79), and assists per set (12.86). The Stags earned a first-round bye and will take the court on Saturday, November 22 at 1pm facing the winner of the Niagara and Canisius first round game.  

Quinnipiac secured the No. 2 seed, marking its 11th postseason appearance as the Bobcats pursue their second MAAC Championship title in program history. The Bobcats enter postseason play riding a 13-match winning streak, the longest in the MAAC this season, following their lone home loss a 1-3 setback to Niagara on October 14. During the regular season, the Bobcats led the conference in five statistical categories including aces per set (1.84), team assists (1,421), and team kills (1,526). They also ranked top-five in eight additional categories including team total attacks (4,266) and digs per set (15.62). The Bobcats have earned a first-round bye and will face the winner of Rider and Siena on Saturday, November 22 and 4:00PM.

No. 3 Rider and No. 6 Siena will open the 2025 MAAC Volleyball Championship on Thursday evening in Lawrenceville, NJ.  Rider enters the championship with a 14-14 overall record and 12-6 mark in conference play, riding a four-match winning streak as they look to win their second MAAC title after having previously claimed the title in 2020-21 spring campaign. The Broncs rank top-five in the conference in seven statistical categories including hitting percentage (.200). Siena enters the post season with a .500 MAAC record, 9-9, and a 14-18 overall record returning to the postseason for the first time since 2022 when they reached the semifinals as the No. 4 seed before falling to top-seeded Fairfield, 3-1. The Saints who are seeking their 10th MAAC Title finished the regular season second in the conference in hitting percentage, .212, trailing behind Fairfield. The Broncs and the Saints met during the regular season on September 27 when Rider earned a 3-1 victory in Loudonville, NY. 

No. 4 Niagara (12-14, 12-6 MAAC) vs. No. 5 Canisius (11-17, 9-9 MAAC)

Battle of the Bridge rivals, No. 4 Niagara and No. 5 Canisius will battle for a spot in the semifinals on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Niagara Falls, NY. The Purple Eagles enter the post season 12-6 in conference play highlighted by a five-match midseason winning streak spanning late September through early October. The Purple Eagles are experienced postseason contenders, having four MAAC Championship Titles, which included three consecutive titles from 2009-2011. The Golden Griffins enter the postseason with a .500 record, 9-9 in conference play and an overall record of 11-17 riding momentum from a six-match winning streak in mid-October, four of which were at home. The Griffs are making their second straight post season appearance after reaching the semifinals in 2024 where they fell to Fairfield, 3-0. This year, they look to capture their first-ever MAAC Volleyball Championship. These teams met twice in the regular season on September 30 and October 28 with Niagara winning both matches, 3-1 and 3-0, respectively.  

The 2025 MAAC Volleyball Championship is a six-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 18 - November 23, 2025. The first round will be hosted by the #3 and #4 seeds. The semifinal round and championship final will be hosted by the #1 seed. The semifinals will be played on November 22and the championship final can be played on November 23.
