Edison, NJ (Nov. 18, 2025) – The 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball Championship opened Thursday evening with No. 4 Niagara University hosting No. 5 Canisius, and No. 3 Rider University welcoming No. 6 Siena to campus for first round matchups.

No. 3 Rider (12-6) swept No. 6 Siena (9-9) in straight sets on Thursday evening in Lawrenceville, NJ, advancing to the semifinals of the 2025 MAAC Volleyball Championship. The opening set was a tightly contested battle, with both teams trading points until Rider secured the final rally with a kill from Kiannisha Santiago off a setup by Makenna Mason, closing the set 25-20. Rider carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a seven-point lead and maintaining control throughout to take the frame 25-15. No. 5 Canisius (9-9) advanced to the semifinals with a 3-1 victory over rival No. 4 Niagara (12-6). Despite strong stretches from the Purple Eagles, the Golden Griffins controlled set one from start to finish, closing it out 25-14 on a kill by Ella Bourque. In Set two, Canisius built a nine-point cushion midway through the frame and carried that momentum to secure their second straight set and take a controlling 2-0 lead. Niagara responded in set three, taking advantage of two separate five point leads to claim the set 25-21, keeping the match alive. With Canisius leading 2-1, the Griffs looked to finish the job and punch their ticket to the next round. Niagara opened set four with an early four-point edge, but Canisius stormed back, scoring the final six points to win the set 26-24 and close out the match 3-1.
Canisius Notes and Notables
- Canisius outscored Niagara in kills, (60-42) and blocks, (13-5).
- Three Griffs posted double figure kills, led by Emma Isroff’s double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs.
- Bella Mosquera and Julia Lenik each finished with 13 kills.
- Madison Cowman recorded a career high of four blocks and added 10 kills and six digs.
- This marks the second consecutive year the Griffs have advanced to the semifinal round of the championship.
Niagara Notes and Notables
- Kinga Wronska led Niagara with a team-high 17 kills and 17 digs, logging a double-double.
- Liana Tolliver was one kill shy of a double-double, recording nine kills and 15 digs.
- Paisley Ka’ahanui led the team with 22 assists.
- Niagara entered the postseason having defeated Canisius in both regular season match ups, 3-1 and 3-0.
The semifinals and final of the 2025 MAAC Volleyball Championship will be held at No. 1 seed, Fairfield in Fairfield, CT. No. 5 Canisius will face No. 1 Fairfield at 1:00pm on Saturday, November 22 in first semifinal game and No. 3 Rider will face No. 2 Quinnipiac at 4:000pm on Saturday for the second semifinal match of the day.
The 2025 MAAC Volleyball Championship is a six-team, single-elimination championship taking place November 18 - November 23, 2025. The first round will be hosted by the #3 and #4 seeds. The semifinal round and championship final will be hosted by the #1 seed. The semifinals will be played on November 22and the championship final can be played on November 23.
