Fairfield and Rider Advance to the 2025 Volleyball Championship Final Match Powered by Northeast Beef

Fairfield, CT (Nov. 22, 2025) – The 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Volleyball Championship continued Saturday at Fairfield University with a semifinal doubleheader, as No. 1 Fairfield battled No. 5 Canisius and No. 2 Quinnipiac squared off with No. 3 Rider.

No. 1 Fairfield (17-1) swept No. 5 Canisius (9-9) in straight sets on Saturday afternoon at home in Fairfield, CT advancing to the MAAC Volleyball Championship Final for the 24th time in program history. The opening set was tight early, but the Stags broke things open with a nine-point run that grew into a 12-point advantage, taking the set 25-14. Fairfield carried that momentum into the second set, jumping out to a seven-point lead and never looking back as they rolled into a 25-11 victory. Canisius battled in the third, putting together a four-point run to stay within reach, but Fairfield responded with five straight points of their own to regain control. The Stags closed out the set 25-13 to secure the sweep and punch their ticket to the 2025 Championship Final. Fairfield will now face No. 3 Rider at home as they chase their 15th MAAC Championship and third consecutive title.
 
Fairfield Notes and Notables
  • Fairfield outperformed Canisius at the net and on defense, finishing with a 17–6 advantage in blocks and a 40–27 edge in digs.
  • Allie Elliott led the back row with 10 digs, while Delaney Moon followed closely with nine.
  • Maya Walker and Elliott each posted season highs at the net, totaling five and ten blocks, respectively.
  • Zofia Sykut paced the Stags’ offense with 16 assists.

No. 3 Rider (12-6) defeated No. 2 Quinnipiac (16-2) on Saturday to advance to the MAAC Championship Final. Quinnipiac opened the match strong, jumping out to a 7-2 lead in the first set and maintaining control throughout to take it 25-17. The momentum shifted in the second set as Rider built a 6–3 advantage. The frame remained tight down the stretch, but the Broncs held on for a 25–23 win to even the match. Rider came out dominant in the third, surging ahead 12–4. Quinnipiac battled back, but once again the set came down to the final points, with Rider edging out another 25–23 victory. The fourth set was another intense battle, with both teams trading four-point leads. Rider eventually pulled away, closing the set 25–16 to secure the match and advance to the Championship Final, where they will face top-seeded Fairfield.

  • Rider held a dominant advantage at the net, out blocking Quinnipiac 15–6.
  • The Broncs and Bobcats were nearly even across the board, with Rider leading 54–51 in kills, 51–49 in assists, and Quinnipiac edging digs 50–47.
  • 2025 MAAC Volleyball Player of the Year Kiannisha Santiago powered the Broncs with 20 kills and added nine digs.
  • Makenna Mason posted a game-high 43 assists along with a season-best seven blocks.
  • Carley McAleavey contributed 10 kills and five blocks in the victory.

  • Yagmur Gunes, the 2025 Setter of the Year, recorded a double-double with 11 kills and 12 digs.
  • Damla Gunes paced Quinnipiac’s offense with 28 assists.
