Player of the Week
Toby Harris, Iona
Gr., Durham, NC, Brandeis University/Durham Academy
Graduate student Toby Harris delivered a season-best and NCAA Division I career-high 26 points in just 28 minutes off the bench to power Iona to a road victory at America East favorite Vermont on Saturday afternoon. One of the MAAC’s most prolific long-distance threats through the season’s first two months, Harris showcased his complete offensive game by doing most of his damage in the paint and at the free throw line. He finished 7-of-10 from the field, went a perfect 10-for-10 at the charity stripe, and knocked down two of three attempts from beyond the arc. Harris was at his best when the game mattered most, scoring 21 of his 26 points in the second half, including 14 consecutive points that fueled Iona’s comeback from a 10-point deficit. His back-to-back baskets in the final five minutes gave the Gaels a lead they would not relinquish. Harris also added four rebounds in the victory, providing a steady veteran presence during one of Iona’s most impressive road wins of the season.
Rookie of the Week
Brandon Benjamin, Fairfield
Fr., Newark, NJ, Bergen Catholic
Brandon Benjamin set a new career high with 19 points in Fairfield's 84-70 victory at CCSU on Thursday evening. Benjamin shot 7-for-10 from the field and 5-for-6 from the free throw line to rack up his 19 points. The MAAC's leading rebounder also hauled in nine boards with an assist and a block in the decisive road triumph.
