As expected, the championship game between the league’s two best units was nothing short of entertainment. The very first quarter produced four ties as the game was knotted at 15-15 after the first 10 minutes of action. Of the 30 combined points scored, 22 were in the paint. The script quickly flipped in the second quarter, in favor of the Stags. Fairfield opened the period with a 10-0 run over the first two and a half minutes, jumping out to a 25-15 lead. The Stags didn’t let up, outscoring the Bobcats 26-11 in the frame to jump out to a commanding 41-26 lead at the half. Fairfield connected on more three-pointers in the first half (6), than the entire 40 minutes of their semifinal win over Mount St. Mary’s (3). Quinnipiac responded out of the locker room, starting the second half with a 10-4 rally, which cut the game to a single digit deficit, but Fairfield reeled off the next nine points, going back up by 18. The Stags never allowed the Bobcats to get any closer than 12 points the remainder of the way, punching their second consecutive ticket into the NCAA March Madness field.
