Marist and Siena To Compete for 2025 MAAC Softball Title

NEW ROCHELLE, NY (May 10, 2025) -  After inclement weather forced a postponement of Friday’s semifinal matchups, 2025 MAAC Softball Championship action resumed Saturday at Iona University’s turf field in New Rochelle, NY. Two semifinals games and an elimination game were completed today, ensuring the championship remains on schedule.

The MAAC Championship game is set to return to Poughkeepsie, NY, and will be played at 9:00 AM on Sunday, May 12 at Marist University. The final matchup will determine the 2025 MAAC champion and the conference’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

In a tense, scoreless semifinal battle, the Red Foxes edged Rider 1-0 in eight innings to punch their ticket to Sunday’s MAAC Championship final. Marist’s Miah McDonald sparked the game-winning rally with a one-out double in the bottom of the eighth. After advancing to third on a flyout, McDonald crossed home on an infield error off the bat of Maddie Pleasants, scoring the game’s only run.
Both teams showcased dominant pitching and defense throughout the game, combining for just nine hits and stranding 16 runners. Marist pitcher Maddie Pleasants was instrumental, keeping the Broncs off the scoreboard in every frame.
With the win, Marist advances to the MAAC Championship game, set for 9:00 a.m. Sunday back at its home field in Poughkeepsie.

Fairfield staged a dramatic two-run rally in the bottom of the seventh to tie Siena 5-5 in a thrilling MAAC Softball Championship semifinal on Saturday afternoon at Iona University. Siena built a 5-2 lead behind a two-run home run from Emma Petersen and a key RBI double by Catie Cummings in the fifth inning. Fairfield answered with one run in the fifth and then rallied in the seventh as Mariah Whieldon and Gianna Camilleri delivered clutch RBI hits to even the score.
Fairfield’s late push capped a back-and-forth battle that featured strong pitching and timely hitting from both sides. Siena totaled 10 hits and was led offensively by Petersen and Cummings, while Fairfield’s Paravati went 3-for-4 at the plate.

A solo home run from Emma Petersen in the bottom of the sixth was all Siena needed to edge Rider 1-0 in a tightly contested semifinal elimination game.
Rider opened the game strong with three straight hits in the first inning but was denied a run after a heads-up defensive play at the plate. Siena’s pitching and defense locked in from there, keeping the Broncs off the board despite multiple threats. Petersen broke the deadlock with a towering shot to right field, creating the game’s only run.
Siena advances to the MAAC Championship game, scheduled for 9:00 a.m. Sunday at Marist College in Poughkeepsie, where they’ll play for the conference title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament.
 
 

The 2025 MAAC Softball Championship is an eight-team single and double elimination championship taking place between May 6-10, 2025. Games 1 and 2 will be single elimination and games 3-12 will be double elimination. The championship will be hosted by the highest seed.
