Iona University Names Alyssa Kaufman Volleyball Head Coach

NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. – Iona University Director of Athletics Matthew Glovaski announced the appointment of Alyssa Kaufman as the head coach of the Gaels' volleyball program. Kaufman brings a strong background in leadership, competitive success, and student-athlete development to New Rochelle, following five seasons on staff at Fordham University and prior head coaching roles at the College of New Rochelle and the College of Mount Saint Vincent.

"We are excited to welcome Alyssa to the Iona community," said Glovaski. "She brings valuable experience, a deep understanding of our region, and a clear commitment to the holistic development of her student-athletes. We believe her steady leadership and competitive vision will serve our program well moving forward."

"I'm incredibly honored and excited to lead the Iona volleyball program," said Kaufman. "I'm grateful to Matt, Senior Woman Administrator Jamie Fogarty, and the entire Iona community for this opportunity. I look forward to building on the strong foundation already in place, competing at the highest level in the MAAC, and creating a championship culture rooted in hard work, integrity, and family."

Kaufman most recently completed her fifth season at Fordham, where she helped guide the Rams to a steady rise in the Atlantic 10 Conference under head coach Ian  Choi. During her tenure, the program progressed from missing the postseason in 2019 to making a run to the A-10 championship match for the first time in school history. Along the way, Fordham earned several major milestones, including its first A-10 Libero of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and AVCA All-Region honoree.

Before joining Fordham, Kaufman led the College of New Rochelle to four consecutive Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (HVIAC) championships and two NCAA Tournament appearances. She earned HVIAC Coach of the Year honors in 2015 and was named AD3I Coach of the Year in 2016. Kaufman also held administrative roles at the institution, including five years as Senior Woman Administrator and one year as Interim Director of Athletics.

Kaufman began her coaching career at the College of Mount Saint Vincent, where she led the Dolphins to a Skyline Conference semifinal berth in her lone season.

As a student-athlete at Montreat College (N.C.), Kaufman was a four-year captain and three-time All-Conference selection. She totaled over 1,300 kills and 1,800 digs during her career and was recognized as a Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athlete for her academic achievements.

A native of Kaukauna, Wisconsin, Kaufman brings more than a decade of experience in coaching and athletic administration to Iona. She assumes her duties immediately and will lead the Gaels through offseason training and summer recruiting ahead of the 2025 campaign.
