Wagner’s Sampedro Tarela and the LIU Duo of Young and Grigoriou Announced as Kap7 MAAC Water Polo Weekly Award Winners

Junior attacker Maylen Sampedro Tarela got a total of nine goals and 11 attempts and two assists during Princeton Invitational last weekend. Tarela had four goals and five attempts against Bucknell, two goals, four attempts and one assist against Indiana, and three goals, three attempts and one assist against Princeton.

Freshman goalie Stella Young put up 25 saves and seven steals in three games at the Princeton Invitational last week. On Jan. 30 against Bucknell she recorded nine saves, three steals with four five-meter saves and versus Santa Clara she had seven saves and three steals. On Jan. 31 against Harvard, she had nine saves and one steal.
 
Rookie of the Week
Elena Grigoriou, LIU

LIU freshman utility Elena Grigoriou was the top goal scorer for the Sharks at the Princeton Invitational last week. She accounted for eight goals and five assists to lead the team. Versus Santa Clara on Jan. 30, she recorded two goals, one assist, one exclusion drawn, and one block. Against Santa Clara, her statline was four goals, two assists, one steal, one exclusion drawn, and one block. She closed out the event with two goals and two assists vs Harvard on Jan. 31.
 
The 2026 MAAC Water Polo Championship will take place April 11-12, 2026. The four-team, single-elimination championship will be hosted by Marist University in Poughkeepsie, NY.
