Sacred Heart’s Kowalski, Siena’s Goewey and Marist’s Salvo Garner Jersey Mike’s MAAC Softball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week
Sam Kowalski, Sacred Heart

Kowalski led the Pioneers at the plate with a .615 batting average (8-for-13), five RBIs and two doubles. She also tallied three runs and a home run as the Pioneers went a perfect 4-0 on the week after sweeps of Yale and Niagara. She started the week with a 3-for-3 showing in the opener against Yale, driving in a run with a double to lead SHU to a 2-0 win, which she was the starting pitcher. Kowalski then had multiple hits in both games against Niagara, starting with a two-RBI showing in her start, a 3-0 SHU win. She followed that up with three more hits, two runs, two RBIs and another double in a 13-4 triumph in six innings in the nightcap. 
 
Pitcher of the Week
Gracie Goewey, Siena
Jr., Bend, OR, Bend
 
Gracie Goewey anchored Siena’s pitching staff in a perfect 5-0 week, going 4-0 in the circle across four appearances. The sophomore logged 23.1 innings and posted a 1.80 ERA while holding opponents to a .173 batting average. Goewey allowed just 14 hits and six earned runs on the week, striking out 21 batters while issuing only seven walks. She recorded two complete-game victories, highlighted by a one-hit, 10-strikeout performance against Canisius in a 4-3 win. Goewey followed with another complete-game effort against Saint Peter’s, allowing just one run on one hit over seven innings.
 
Rookie of the Week
Maia Salvo, Marist
Fr., Coventry, RI, Ponaganset High School
 
Maia Salvo hit .333 with a 1.262 OPS (.833 slugging, .429 on-base) in five games last week. She belted two home runs, both of which came against nationally-ranked Arizona State on March 28. Salvo also drove in four runs, scored five times, had a walk, and was hit by a pitch. She helped fuel Marist's doubleheader sweep at Mount St. Mary's on March 24. In game one, she had an RBI groundout, and she then was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh. She came around to score the first of Marist's five runs in the inning in its 10-5 win. In the second game, she went 2-for-3 with two runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. With the game scoreless in the top of the second, she drew a two-out walk and came around to score. She then led off the fourth with a single, and she came around to score. After Mount cut its deficit to one, Salvo's two-out RBI single in the fifth expanded Marist's lead.
