Marist squeaked by Quinnipiac, 77-75, in the night’s opening game. The first half was a game of constant runs between both teams. After a 5-2 start from Marist, Quinnipiac flew out to a 16-4 run to take the lead. From there, Marist would go on a 31-16 run to close out the first half with a scoreboard advantage of 42-32 at the half. Justin Menard of Marist was aggressive early and had 12 points, going 5-for-5 at the line. His backcourt mates, Rhyjon Blackwell and Jadin Collins-Roberts had 10 points each, to give the trio a combined 32 points of the team’s 42 scored.

The pendulum swung in favor of Quinnipiac in the second half. The Bobcats opened up the final half on an 8-2 run, which turned into a 21-9 run, giving Quinnipiac a 53-51 lead at the 10:13 mark. Grant Randle had a monster stretch scoring 16 points during the spurt. Quinnipiac took leads as high as four twice before Marist clawed its way back to the lead at 60-59 with 4:32. Down the stretch, both Menard and Randall came up clutch for their squads, hitting big bucket after bucket. A couple of huge back-to-back threes with less than two minutes to play from Menard put Marist in position to win. With less than 10 seconds to go, Quinnipiac’s Tai Turnage drove the length of the floor and attempted a game-tying jumper, but his attempt was denied by Jaden Daughtry, sealing the deal for Marist.
