PRINCETON, NJ (Apr. 25, 2026) – No. 1 Marist University and No. 2 Rider University captured semifinal round wins at the 2026 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Tennis Championship on Saturday at Princeton University Racquet and Fieldhouse in Princeton, NJ. The Red Foxes swept No. 4 Mount St. Mary’s University in the first match, and the Broncs topped No. 3 Quinnipiac University, 4-2, to advance to the championship final on Sunday.

Top seeded Marist kept its perfect record against MAAC teams alive with a 4-0 sweep over No. 4 Mount St. Mary’s in the first semifinal round matchup of the afternoon. The Red Foxes got to work quickly, collecting the doubles point with a 6-0 win at #3 and a 6-4 win at #1. Marist’s #3 doubles unit featured Jose Catala and Fateh Singh and the #1 doubles team was made up of Tom Bevan and Nicholas Suhanitski.
Singles were all Marist as well. Tom Bevan garnered a win at the #5 position over Alessio Guarino (6-2 6-4), to put the Red Foxes ahead 2-0. Jose Catala followed that up with a 6-2 6-4 victory at the topflight against Stefanos Pournaropoulos, to extend the lead to 3-0. The match deciding point was clinched by the Red Foxes’ Anirudh Nallaparaju at the #4 position, winning 6-3 6-1 over Ryan Wagner.
Marist’s winning streak improved to nine straight with the win. The Red Foxes both return to the championship match and earned its first postseason win since 2018. Marist will look to win title number 13, already owning 12 MAAC Championship trophies. The program last captured a league crown over a decade ago when those Red Foxes completed a three-peat from 2013 through 2015.

No. 2 Rider earned a come from behind win over No. 3 Quinnipiac, defeating the reigning MAAC Champions, 4-2. The Broncs struck first with a 6-1 win at #3 doubles. The Bobcats would respond by winning each of the last two doubles matches to take the doubles point. First, Carlos Braun Simo and Alessandro Sciacca defeated Cole Thurgur and Matteus Froberg Dahlin 6-3 in the #1 spot and then Quinnipiac clinched the point by way of a 7-6 (6) tiebreak win for Finn Burridge and Elias Hoxha over Heath Waters Jr. and Ibragim Turgambekov at #2.
Quinnipiac claimed the first singles point and went ahead 2-0 on the scoreboard after Finn Burridge beat Matthew Griscti 6-3 6-1 in the #5 position. That would be the last point scored by the Bobcats on the evening as Rider would rally to win the next four straight matches. The run began with wins at #6 and #4 when Roger Pelaez Martinez took down Csanad Nyaradi 6-1 6-4 and Nathan Slattery defeated Alessandro Sciacca 6-3 6-2, to even the semifinal at 2-2. Rider took a 3-2 advantage following #1 singles, when Cole Thurgur won a tiebreak against Carlos Braun Simo (7-5 7-6(2)). Rider wrapped up the semifinal battle with Matteus Froberg Dahlin winning 6-2 4-6 6-2 over Vishal Prakash in the #2 hole.
Rider returns to the championship final for the second straight year and second time in program history. The semifinal win for the Broncs avenged last season’s championship final defeat to Quinnipiac and eliminated the two-time defending champions.
The 2026 MAAC Men's Tennis Championship final will take place on Sunday April 26 at 3:00 p.m. with the winner earning the league’s automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament.
