BUFFALO, NY (May. 13, 2023) – The 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Softball Championship continued Saturday, May 13 at Canisius College’s Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, NY with the final round of the 2023 MAAC Softball Championship taking place. No.1 Canisius College and No. 3 Marist College faced off at 11am for the 2023 MAAC Softball Championship game.
In the final of the 2023 MAAC Softball Championship No. 3 Marist College defeated top seed Canisius College by a score of 6-2 to capture the 2023 title. Marist entered the title game for the first time since 2019 and earned its first MAAC Softball Championship since the 2016 season. As the 2023 MAAC Softball champions, Marist earns an automatic bid to the 2023 NCAA Softball tournament. The 2023 NCAA Softball tournament takes place Sunday, May 14 at 7:30pm and will reveal the next opponent for the Red Foxes.
The following players were named to the 2023 MAAC Softball All-Championship Team: Kaitlin Hoffman (Fairfield), Haley Updegraff (Fairfield), Emma Capuano (Iona), Kara Zazzaro (Iona), Gianna Fazzolari (Canisius), Megan Giese (Canisius), Christie McGee-Ross (Canisius), Haley Ahr (Marist), Hannah Brock (Marist), Alyssa Grupp (Marist), Maddie Pleasants (Marist), Kiley Myers, MVP (Marist).

Marist Notes
-Marist led the entire game en route to claiming their first MAAC Softball title since 2016.
- Peyton Pusey recorded three hits in four at bats for Marist and boasted a .750 slugging percentage.
-Isabella Manory drove in two runs and recorded two hits on the day for a .500 on base percentage.
- All-Championship Team selection, Haley Ahr, totaled two hits and 2 RBIs in the win, with a .750 slugging percentage.
- Sam Freeland scored two runs in the win for the Red Foxes.
-Haley Ahr, Hannah Brock, Alyssa Grupp and Maddie Pleasants were named to the 2023 MAAC Softball All-Championship Team.
- The MVP of the 2023 MAAC Softball Championship, Kiley Myers, pitched a complete game for Marist recording four strikeouts with an ERA of 2.00.
-The Red Foxes will find out who they face in the NCAA tournament during the selection show on Sunday, May 14 at 7:30pm.
Canisius Notes
- Christie McGee -Ross recorded two hits in two at bats for the Golden Griffins (1 HR, 1 RBI).
-Saige Alfaro had two hits on the day for Canisius.
-Megan Giese pitched a full game for the Griffs, recording four strikeouts.
-Gianna Fazzolari, Megan Giese and Christie McGee-Ross were named to the 2023 MAAC All-Championship Team.
- Canisius College finishes the season with an overall record od 30-16-1.
