BUFFALO, NY (May. 9, 2023) – The 2023 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Softball Championship is set to be played this week from Wednesday, May 10 through Saturday, May 13 Canisius College’s Demske Sports Complex in Buffalo, NY. All games during the tournament will be shown live on ESPN+. The 2023 MAAC Softball Championship is a six-team double elimination tournament that will feature top seed, Canisius College, No. 2 Mount St. Mary’s University, No. 3 Marist College, No. 4 Fairfield University, No. 5 Siena College and No. 6 Iona University.
Canisius College comes into the 2023 MAAC Softball Championship as the top seed and host school. The Griffs who were picked as the preseason favorites in the MAAC, claimed the 2023 MAAC Regular Season title with a record of 17-3 in conference play. The Golden Griffins pursuit to defend their MAAC title begins on Thursday at 1:30 pm when they will face off with the winner between No. 4 Fairfield and No. 5 Siena. Led by MAAC Pitcher of the Year, Megan Giese, MAAC Coach of the Year, Kim Griffin, and a host of All-MAAC performers, Canisius looks to add another banner to the collection.
Mount St. Mary’s University earns a first-round bye in the tournament as the No. 2 seed. The Mount will face the winner between No.3 Marist and No. 6 Iona. Mount St. Mary’s went on a 13-game win streak during the regular season to earn the second seed in the 2023 MAAC Softball tournament. Mount St. Mary’s looks to go on a postseason run in their inaugural season in the MAAC, after being picked to finish in sixth place in the preseason polls. This Mount St. Mary’s team features MAAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, Maggie Kane, and All-MAAC Second Team performers: Kaia Bonshock, Vanessa Martin, and Avery Neuhart.
No. 3 Marist (25-28, 12-8 MAAC) vs. No. 6 Iona (18-29-1, 10-10 MAAC)

The MAAC Softball Championship kicks off on Wednesday at 11am with No. 3 Marist taking on No. 6 Iona. Marist looks to pick up a third win over the Gaels this season, after going 2-0 during the regular season series. The Red Foxes brought in eight runs against Iona during their first matchup on 5/5, then recorded a 5-0 shutout in the second matchup between the schools. Led by the duo of MAAC Player of the Year, Maddie Pleasants and MAAC Rookie of the Year, Haley Ahr, the Red Foxes look to claim their first MAAC title since 2016. Iona enters the MAAC Softball tournament on a two game win streak, led by All-MAAC First Team pitcher, Kara Zazzaro, and All-MAAC Second Team catcher, Jamie Sheeran.
No. 4 Fairfield (21-23, 11-9 MAAC) vs. No. 5 Siena (32-19, 11-9 MAAC)

In the second opening round game of the 2023 Softball Championship, No.4 Fairfield takes on No. 5 Siena. During the regular season Fairfield swept the season series with Siena, recording 8-0,4-1 wins. The Stags come into the postseason on a five-game win streak and look to record their first MAAC Softball Championship win since 2021. Siena the 2022 MAAC Softball Championship runner-up’s, look to go on another postseason run.
