LEXINGTON, KY – Four members of the Iona University men's outdoor track team have qualified to compete in this week's NCAA East First Rounds hosted by the University of Kentucky at UK Track & Field Complex. Seniors Damien Dilcher and Jadyn Tabois, junior Lachlan Wellington and freshman Bradley Giblin will represent the Maroon & Gold and vie for a spot at the NCAA Championships in June in Eugene, Oregon.
Damien Dilcher - 1500m
First Round: 5/23, 6:30 p.m. | Quarterfinal: 5/25, 5:15 p.m.
Senior Damien Dilcher is the top ranked Gael heading into the NCAA preliminaries rounds running the ninth fastest 1,500-meter time in the East this season, and seventh fastest on the declared list for the event. His Iona record 3:39.42 came at the Wake Forest Invitational on April 19. It was also the 22nd fastest in the NCAA this year. Dilcher was the MAAC Champion in the event earlier this month. He will compete at the NCAA Outdoor event for the third time in his Iona career.
Jadyn Tabois - 200m
First Round: 5/23, 8:45 p.m. | Quarterfinal: 5/25, 7:50 p.m.
Senior Jadyn Tabois returns to the NCAA preliminaries in the 200-meter event for the second time. He qualified with a time of 20.67 at the Raleigh Relays in late March. Tabois is the Iona record holder in the 200 and a two time MAAC gold medalist in the event. His qualifying time ranks 45th in the East, 36th among declared entrants and 79th in the NCAA this season.
Lachlan Wellington - 10,000m
Semifinal: 5/23, 9:10 p.m.
Junior Lachlan Wellington will compete in the NCAA 10k semifinal for the third time Wednesday night. Wellington posted a qualifying time of 28:52.19 at the Raleigh Relays in late March. It was a personal best time for Wellington and 54 seconds better than his performance in last year's semifinal. His time ranks 33rd in the East and 78th in the NCAA this season. Wellington was the 5,000-meter MAAC Champion earlier this month.
Bradley Giblin - 5,000m
Semifinal: 5/25, 8:10 p.m.
Rookie Bradley Giblin makes his NCAA debut in the 5,000-meter event Friday night. Giblin's qualifying time of 13:47.92 also came at Raleigh Relays. It ranks 38th in the East, 29th among declared entrants and 92nd in the NCAA this season. It is a top six time on Iona's all-time performance list.
