Quinnipiac Secures Back-to-Back MAAC Men’s Tennis Titles after Winning 2025 Championship

WEST WINDSOR, NJ (Apr. 27, 2025) – No. 1 Quinnipiac University won the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Men’s Tennis Championship on Sunday morning at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. The Bobcats defeated No. 6 Rider University, 4-1, en route to their second straight MAAC Men’s Tennis title.

The Bobcats snagged the doubles point after winning at the #3 and #2 positions. Alex Yang and Elias Hoxha took down Cooper Dillon and Axel Engstrom, 6-4 at the #3 spot, then at the #2 spot, James Lorenzetti and Daniel Velek defeated Roger Pelaez Martinez and Cole Thurgur, 6-3, to give the Bobcats a 1-0 lead heading into singles. In singles, the Bobcats jumped out to a 3-0 lead over the Broncs following a pair of victories at the #3 spot and topflight. At the #3 position, Quinnipiac’s Carlos Braun Simo took down Rider’s Cole Thurgur, 6-3 6-4. In the top position matchup, Quinnipiac’s Daniel Velek beat Dhruv Tangri in straight sets, 6-4 6-2. Despite taking a commanding 3-0 lead, Rider won the first set of the remaining four singles matches, still leaving the title up for grabs. The Broncs would erase the shutout and avoid being swept following a victory at #2 singles by Matteus Froberg Dahlin, who defeated Finn Burridge, 7-6 (7-4) 6-2. With all three remaining courts battling it out, the title clinching point was decided at the #4 position. In a three-set thriller, Quinnipiac’s Elias Hoxha outlasted Rider’s Nathan Slattery, 3-6 6-4 6-3 to secure the Bobcats second straight MAAC Championship, the second overall trophy in program history.
 
Quinnipiac’s overall record improved to 12-11 on the season. The win for the Bobcats was the 11th straight, having last lost a match on March 8, and improved the team’s record to 10-0 against conference opponents in 2025.
 
Elias Hoxha, who went 4-0 for Quinnipiac during the championship and earned the title clinching point, was named as the 2025 MAAC Championship Most Outstanding Performer.
 
Quinnipiac will earn the MAAC automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division I Men’s Tennis Championship. The Bobcats will find out their opponent and match time on Monday, April 28 at 5:30 p.m. during the Division I Men’s Tennis Selection Show on NCAA.com.
