COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Fairfield University Women's Lacrosse saw its 2025 season come to a close on Friday with a 16-7 loss at #6 Maryland in the NCAA Championship First Round. Brooke Marotti scored four goals for the Stags and Kelly Haggerty had a three-point day with two goals and an assist.
The MAAC Champion Stags conclude the year with a record of 11-8. The Terrapins improve to 15-5 and await the winner of the second game in the College Park regional featuring #12 Penn and #21 Army West Point.
Marotti's four goals included Fairfield's first three tallies of the day. Haggerty's two goals increased her total to 47 on the season, which cracks all-time single season top 10.
Amanda Kozak rounded out her standout career with a goal and an assist. She finishes with 73 points this season, tied for eighth in a single-season, and her 38 assists mark the third most in a single campaign by a Stag. For her career, Kozak finishes tied with Kelly Horning for fifth all-time with 189 points. The 2024 MAAC Offensive Player of the Year also ranks 10th in career goals (133) and ninth in assists (56).
Brynn Donnelly's first of her three draw controls on the day established a new Fairfield career record. Donnelly surpassed the 271 draws won by Erin Mammele from 2016-19, finishing her junior campaign at 274 draw controls and counting. She also set a new single-season mark this spring with 149 as the only Stag with two 100+ draw seasons.
Kit Zanelli led the effort on the draw circle with five wins this afternoon, and Eva Petrone collected three.
The Fairfield defensive effort was buoyed by nine saves for Keira Furey. The unit in front of her recorded 11 caused turnovers, including three alongside four ground balls from Katherine Shammas. Haley Burns added two caused turnovers with four ground galls, and Maggie Lonsinger also created a pair of Maryland turnovers.
The Stags' seventh consecutive NCAA postseason appearance was the ninth overall in program history. Fairfield earned the automatic bid to the tournament as the 2025 MAAC Champions – the Stags' ninth conference crown. The Stags also earned the MAAC Regular Season Championship this spring for the 16th time in program history.
