After a season of fierce competition and standout individual performances, the MAAC Championship game features the league’s two best teams: the top-seeded Sacred Heart Pioneers and the second-seeded Siena Saints. Both teams entered the post season with a 7-1 MAAC record and with both teams having earned gritty semifinal victories—Sacred Heart defeating Quinnipiac 18-11 and Siena edging Marist 15-14—this matchup promises a high-stakes, high-talent showdown.
In their last meeting, MAAC opener on March 15, fans saw a thrilling game that ended with Sacred Heart prevailing 11-10 in overtime. The game-winning goal came from John Murray, setting the tone for both teams' strong conference runs.
This championship tilt features the MAAC's elite offensive talent. Siena’s Pratt Reynolds leads the conference in scoring with 3.57 goals per game, providing explosive offensive firepower while Sacred Heart’s Spencer Tucker is right behind him at 3.00 goals per game, forming a lethal duo. Ryan McCarthy from Siena is the MAAC's top distributor, averaging 2.93 assists per game, orchestrating the Saint’s attack. Pioneer’s Jake Ward adds another playmaking dimension, averages 1.93 assists per game.
In goal, Sacred Heart has the statistical edge with Alex Pazienza, the MAAC's save percentage leader at .571, anchoring a defense that has steadily improved throughout the season. On the other end, Andrew Arcuri was Siena’s hero in the semifinals, delivering the game-winning save to preserve the Saints' one-goal victory over Marist.
Expect a tight, high-scoring affair. Both teams bring potent offenses and momentum, but Sacred Heart's edge in goaltending and the confidence of an earlier overtime win could prove crucial. Siena, however, has the firepower to push any defense to the brink and will be hungry for revenge.
