EDISON, NJ (May 6, 2025) – Amid the rapidly evolving college athletics landscape, Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) student-athletes continue to excel in the classroom at high rates. Today the NCAA announced the latest four-year Academic Progress Rates (APR) and 44 MAAC teams achieved perfect APR scores (1,000) – 28 women’s and 16 men’s. Four league sports saw an increase in their average rate from the 2022-23 report, while eight MAAC sports posted rates above or equal to the national average.
According to the 2023-24 data, Fairfield University led all MAAC institutions with eight teams earning a perfect mark. Marist University followed with seven teams recording perfect scores. Two conference schools recorded five flawless scores, and they included Merrimack College and Quinnipiac University. Mount St. Mary’s University and Sacred Heart University registered four teams with a score of 1,000, while Canisius University and Siena College had three squads with perfect rates. Rider University had two teams with a perfect mark while Iona University had one squad with a perfect tally. A pair of associate member teams achieved perfect scores additionally, which featured UAlbany (Women’s Golf) and Villanova University (Women’s Water Polo).
For the fourth consecutive year since the APR returned, women's lacrosse had the highest MAAC multiyear average at 995. The largest improvement on the women’s side and in the MAAC was golf at plus five, while men’s lacrosse (+1) had the highest improvement on the men's side. Overall, the MAAC’s four-year average increased by one from last year’s report, improving to 984.
The APR, created to provide more of real-time measurement of academic success than graduation success rates offer, is a team-based metric where scholarship student-athletes earn one point each term for remaining eligible and one point for staying in school or graduating. Schools that don't offer scholarships track their recruited student-athletes. The multiyear APR reflects NCAA Division I APR data submitted by schools for the 2020-21 through 2023-24 academic years.
