Fort Washington, NY (Feb. 21, 2026) – Day one of the 2026 MAAC Indoor Track & Field Championships at The Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory delivered standout performances across the board, with Quinnipiac leading the women’s team standings and Sacred Heart setting the pace on the men’s side.

Nine events crowned 24 individual champions and two relay teams on Saturday. Sacred Heart made an early statement, capturing three gold medals across men’s and women’s competition.
Mount St. Mary’s saw a historic performance in the men’s pole vault, as Ethan Demeter cleared 5.18m to set a new MAAC Championship record. Teammate Tyler Cash followed with a silver medal, clearing 4.88m. The Mount also added a bronze in the women’s long jump, along with silver and bronze finishes in the men’s high jump.
In the men’s 5,000m, Iona dominated the distance event. Matt Rankin captured gold in 14:12.75, while Baptiste Cartieaux secured silver in 14:13.67 to give the Gaels a 1-2 finish.
Sacred Heart opened the evening field events in dominant fashion in the women’s weight throw, where Suzan Adekunle won gold with a mark of 17.65m and teammate Caroline Herlihy added bronze at 16.24m. On the men’s side, the Pioneers also showed strength throughout the sprints and hurdles, placing multiple athletes into Sunday finals.
On the women’s side, Iona’s Tayla Gunton claimed the 5,000m title in 16:32.63, while Quinnipiac captured the Distance Medley Relay crown in 12:04.33 to help propel the Bobcats into the overall lead.
