Quinnipiac’s Duo of Braun Simo and Renton, Fairfield’s Alcala Named Jersey Mike’s MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Weekly Award Winners

Men’s Player of the Week
Carlos Braun Simo, Quinnipiac

Carlos Braun Simo went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-1 at No. 1 doubles against Fairfield and Niagara, helping the Bobcats clinch the No. 3 seed in the MAAC postseason. The junior improved to 11-4 in singles play this season and has now won seven of his last eight matches. Braun Simo earned straight-set victories in both singles matches, defeating Krolokowski of Fairfield 6-1, 6-3, and Garcia of Niagara 6-4, 6-0. In doubles play, Braun Simo and partner Alessandro Sciacca picked up a 6-4 win over Niagara’s Garcia and Wong to secure their eighth doubles victory of the season.
 
Men’s Rookie of the Week
Diego Alcala, Fairfield
Fr., León, Mexico
 
Diego Alcala went 2-0 in singles to conclude his freshman campaign. He headed up the #2 Singles spot to earn victories over both Quinnipiac and Niagara. Alcala and Domagoj Stabek were clipped at #3 Doubles against QU, and their doubles match against Niagara never began due to the Stags clinching the win during singles play.
 
Women’s Player of the Week
Willow Renton, Quinnipiac

Willow Renton went 4-0 at No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against Fairfield and Niagara, helping the Bobcats secure back-to-back MAAC regular season championships. Renton remains undefeated in MAAC singles play and extended her singles win streak to nine matches. Renton and partner Caitlin Flower opened the weekend with a 6-3 doubles victory over Fairfield’s Gell and Neyestani. She followed with a straight-sets singles win over Mandma, 6-2, 6-3. Against Niagara, Renton and Flower earned a 6-2 doubles win over Kotok and Melo, and a 6-2, 7-5 singles victory over Garcia Torra.
 
The 2026 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships are a four-team, single-elimination championships taking place on April 24-26 at Princeton University Racquet and Fieldhouse in Princeton, NJ.
