Quinnipiac’s DeMott, Sacred Heart’s Kowalski, and Iona’s Morales Win Jersey Mike’s MAAC Softball Weekly Awards

Player of the Week
Kennedy DeMott, Quinnipiac

Kennedy DeMott helped lead Quinnipiac to its fifth MAAC series win of the season. DeMott went 4-for-8 (.500) at the plate, tallying two doubles, a home run, seven RBI, and three runs scored against Manhattan. Defensively, the catcher recorded 11 putouts and three assists while throwing out three runners attempting to steal. DeMott scored the first two runs in game one and the opening run in game two. In game one's 6-0 victory, she went 2-for-3 with four RBI and two runs scored. In game two, DeMott went a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and a run scored in a 10-1 run-rule win. The senior recorded an RBI double in the first inning to put Quinnipiac on the board, then added a two-run double in the second.
 
Pitcher of the Week
Sam Kowalski, Sacred Heart
Sr., San Clemente, CA, San Clemente
 
Kowalski posted an outstanding 0.40 ERA last week over 17.2 innings pitched, going 2-1 with 19 strikeouts in all three games against Merrimack at Pioneer Park. She started with a complete-game gem, striking out nine Warriors with just two hits in a 6-0 win for the Pioneers. She then entered in relief with a runner in scoring position and one out in a 2-2 game two, going perfect over the final 1.2 innings to claim the win in a 6-2 SHU victory. Kowalski gave it her all in her final appearance, as she went 9.0 inning and struck out eight batters. She did not give up a run until two outs in the top of the ninth, as Merrimack claimed a 1-0 win. At the plate, Kowalski hit .333 with two RBIs, two runs, one double and a home run.
 
Rookie of the Week
Rachael Morales, Iona
Fr., Tolland, CT, Edwin O. Smith High School
 
Rachael Morales led the Iona University softball team with a .462 (6-for-13) batting average this past week. She recorded a team-high four runs scored, two home runs and five runs batted in during the 2-2 week for the Gaels. The Tolland, CT native opened the week with a career day in the 5-2 win over LIU on Wednesday. Morales posted a leadoff home run, a two-run home run and a two-RBI single in the victory over the Sharks. She followed that up with a single and run scored in the 8-3 game one win over Marist on Saturday. Morales added a hit in each of the one run setbacks in game two Friday and the series finale on Saturday against the Red Foxes.
