Rider’s Duo of Thurgur and Waters, Marist’s Ungerman and Sacred Heart’s Nelson Win Jersey Mike’s MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Weekly Awards

Men’s Player of the Week
Cole Thurgur, Rider
So., Ontario, Canada, Nepean High School
 
Thurgur went 6-0 (3-0 at #1 doubles and 3-0 at #2 singles) during a 3-0 week for the Broncs, taking down all of his matches in straight sets. In Rider's win against Villanova, he won 6-2 in doubles play and 6-3, 6-4 in singles play. In Rider's 7-0 sweep against Merrimack, he won 6-1 in doubles and 6-1, 6-2 in singles. To round out the week in Rider's win over Sacred Heart, the sophomore won 6-1 in doubles and 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 in singles.
 
Men’s Rookie of the Week
Heath Paul Waters, Rider
Fr., Alpharetta, GA
 
Waters was 5-1 across three wins for the Broncs in the past week. The freshman won 6-3 in second doubles and 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 for the come-from-behind win at third singles against Villanova. Against Merrimack, he won 6-1 at second doubles and 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 at third singles. In the win against Sacred Heart, Waters got his third singles win of the week with a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 victory at number three.
 
Women’s Player of the Week
Lola Ungerman, Marist
So., Brussels, Belgium, Lycee Francais Jean Monet
 
Ungerman went 3-0 in singles and 3-0 in doubles to help Marist to a 2-1 week. In a 4-3 loss to Quinnipiac, Ungerman earned a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win at No. 4 singles and added a 6-3 victory at No. 3 doubles. She followed with a 6-2, ret. win at No. 3 singles and a 6-0 victory at No. 2 doubles in a 7-0 sweep of Merrimack. Ungerman closed the week with a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles and a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles in a 6-1 win over Siena.
 
Women’s Rookie of the Week
Ava Nelson, Sacred Heart
FY., Elk River, MN, Elk River
 
Ava Nelson went 2-0 in both singles and doubles in 2-0 week for Sacred Heart with wins over Fairfield and Rider.  
 
The 2026 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships are a four-team, single-elimination championships taking place on April 25-26 at Mercer County Park Tennis Center in West Windsor, NJ. The 2026 Championships will be the 14th consecutive time the event is held at Mercer County Park Tennis Center dating back to the 2012 MAAC Men's & Women's Tennis Championships.
